The American has been sidelined by a knee injury since November and underwent surgery in January.
Now fully recovered but lacking match sharpness, the 26-year-old took part in the World Team Tennis (WTT) event, playing for New York Buzz against Hartford FoxForce.

Davenport opened the evening with a singles match against world number 20 Meghann Shaughnessy, but she failed to shake off the rust as the younger American prevailed.

"It's been a long, long road. Certainly, I've got much further to go," said Davenport.

"I'm definitely a little unsure out there about my shot selection. When you're playing well, you just kind of know where the balls are going and where you're going to hit it.

"When you don't, you second-guess yourself. I just need to get over that and play more."

Davenport later took part in two doubles matches, winning both and leading her team to an overall 22-16 win.

"I kind of knew the first few matches I came back are going to be tough," she said.

"I'm really confident I'm going to keep improving."

Davenport plans to play one more WTT event before joining up with the US Fed Cup team to play Israel in Missouri on 19-20 July.
