Spaniards Magui Serna and Virginia Ruano Pascual were among Wednesday's four seeded victors at the $140,000 clay-court French Community Championships. The fifth-seeded Serna easily handled Dutchwoman Kristie Boogert 6-3, 6-3 in a second-round match, while the sixth-seeded Ruano Pascual held off Belgium's own Daphne Van de Sande 5-7, 7-5, 6-2 in an opening-round affair.

In other second-round action, eighth-seeded Emilie Loit of France pasted Estonian Maret Ani 6-3, 6-2, and Swiss Myriam Casanova cut down German Anca Barna 6-4, 6-4.

In other first-round play, seventh-seeded German Martina Muller whipped Belgian Elke Clijsters 6-4, 6-2, and Belgian Els Callens dispatched Spaniard Marta Marrero 6-1, 6-2.

The 17-year-old Clijsters is the younger sister of world No. 5 star Kim Clijsters.
