Justine Henin-Hardenne returned to action after an 6 month lay-off at the Nasdaq 100 Open, Miami with a successful victory and a huge boost for her confidence and fitness Henin-Hardenne the former world number one was struck by a virus for most of last year and then forced out of the start of the 2005 season with a knee injury. The Belgian who will look at Kim Clijsters fantastic run last week has a motivation struggled with her serve with only 43% first serves and 5 double faults against her American opponent Abigail Spears. Justine will now play Nuria Llagostera Vives.

Venus Williams a former champion here romped her way past Germany's Anna-Lena Groenefeld 6-2, 6-0 in 50 minutes to send out a strong warning to the field that she is still in contention with winning the big titles when she feels like it.

One of the biggest shocks of the tournament so far is the fall of Vera Zvonareva the 9th seeded Russian who claimed the first set against Spain's Nuria Llagostera Vives 6-3 before the unseeded opponent stormed through the second set 6-3 and the third 6-1.
