Top seed and defending champion Amy Frazier of the United States lost in the first round to Li Na of China 5-7, 5-7 at the Moorilla International in Hobart, Australia. Australian wild card Casey Dell'Acqua won her first WTA tour match, upsetting Russian Alina Jidkova 7-5, 6-4.
