After 50 minutes of play Clijsters walked off from the court too much in pain to continue the match against Russian Elena Bovina who will now meet her compatriot Elena Dementieva in the final on Sunday.

According to her coach Marc Dehous Kim’s season is over, ”if the feeling is right she will not play anymore in 2004”, he said after match explaining what had happened.

With the second return in the match she was feeling a stab of pain in her left wrist, the same spot were she had her operation earlier this year. Considering that she didn’t have any pain in previous matches she is worried that everything is going to start all over again.

Doctors will have to find out with scans if something is wrong with her tendon. When they see a tear in the tendon it would cause a lot of trouble knowing that gives a lot of problems to heal.

Marc Dehous also explained that she didn’t start too soon. The doctors did give permission to start at Hasselt; Clijsters wanted to start earlier and had to be convinced it would not be wise to start as early as the US Open.

Earlier Clijsters was worried that something had gone wrong because her wrist was feeling stiff all the time after using it. Her medical team explained that this was a normal reaction and that it would be feeling better as she started to play more matches. During practice and earlier matches she had no pain or other trouble, at practice she was tested to the maximum playing with male sparring partners that could hit as hard as any hard-hitting player on the WTA tour.

Elena Bovina later said that she was happy but not happy with the way she won her match against Clijsters, “I know what it's like, I have been injured for a long time. I prefer winning beating her and not like this.” After Kim Clijsters had left the court Bovina apologized to the audience for winning this way.

“During the match I didn’t notice anything wrong with her play but she plays better with one arm than other with two” she said. “I thought she was getting a medical time out for something with her hamstring after she did that split, I didn’t notice anything wrong with her wrist”.

Elena Bovina will meet compatriot Elena Dementieva in the Sunday final. “It really doesn’t matter who I play Russian, Belgian or American, I just try to play my game and don’t think about others”

About getting on top of the rank with her compatriots she said: “it's not my goal to get to the level of Myskina, Kuznetsova or others I just want to play my best.”

The all Russian Dementieva vs. Bovina final is scheduled for 2 PM Sunday October 3.
