The 19-year-old Elke Clijsters, Kim’s younger sister, had to end her tennis career with an ongoing back injury. According to her doctors it would seriously damage her back if she continues to play. Elke (# 400 at the WTA ranking) said she had to take the decision with much dislike.

Elke Clijsters is playing with backaches for a long time. There was no other option than to call it quits.

In 2002 she won the junior world title in doubles, now she wants to take on the job to support the youth players.

According to Belgian team coach Ivo van Aken she had a lot of potential to become a top 30 player. “Unfortunately her body resisted reaching that goal, the injury was having a bad influence on her motivation as well”.
