Anabel Medina Garrigues of Spain defeats 7th seed Claudine Schaul of Luxemburg in straight sets 6-4, 6-0. Medina Garrigues had a 5-1 lead but had trouble finishing the set. Schaul managed to come back to 5-4 but failed to tie 5 all in games.
Medina takes advantage of Schaul’s serving after a double fault Medina Garrigues is on set point. On 15-40 Schaul hits a ball wide and the 21-year- old from Valencia Spain takes the first set, 6-4.
The second set was a mere formality when Schaul failed to hold her serve and almost her temper. On 0-4 the umpire told her to stay calm after she threatened to hit the ball into the stands.
In the sixth game Schaul hits a double fault but managed to lead 40-30. Medina Garrigues out played the Luxemburger for deuce. She also handed Medina Garrigues advantage serving a double fault. To end the whole adventure, again she hits a double fault and Anabel Medina Garrigues walks away as the winner 6-4, 6-0.
