Russian No.1 seed and # 12th ranked Nadia Petrova was upset by # 52nd ranked Jelena Jankovic of Serbia. The 19 year-old Jankovic, who trains at Nick Bolletieri in Bradenton since the age of 12, won 4 and 3.

Jelena Jankovic took good advantage of Nadia Petrova’s sloppy serve. The number one seed Petrova did not serve well and Jankovic attacked the Russians second serve hitting return winners and making life difficult for Petrova.

Jankovic broke Petrova’s first and last service game to win the first set 6-4. Petrova had only break-chance but she could not convert the game in to her advantage.

In the second set the match was even more one-sided and soon Jankovic was leading 5-1. Petrova could take three games and the 8th game was Petrova’s best one so far but she found her good form a little too late. On 40-30 Jankovic turned her second matchpoint into a winner after Petrova could retrieve good shots from Jankovic but failed to win the last one.

After beating the Russian No. 1 seed 6-4, 6-3 Jankovic will meet the 8th seed Russian player Lina Krasnoroutskaya.

Lina Krasnoroutskaya defeats Czech Denisa Chladkova in two sets. 6-3, 6-4.
