The first results have arrived for day one and round one of the French Open 2004, Roland Garros, Paris. Who has won and who has lost? First seed Justine Henin-Hardenne of Belgium defeats Frenchwoman Sandrine Testud in two sets 6-4, 6-4 in the first round of the French Open in Paris.

After a rusty start the Belgian No.1 of the world found her routine in time to advance to the second round.

Henin-Hardenne’s friend on the tour Sandrine Testud managed to take advantage of the Belgians rusty start who played her first match in six weeks.

Testud could break Henin-Hardenne’s first service game whose serve was not in complete working order. The 32-years-old French who recently became a mother won her own serve but failed to take a 3-0 lead when Henin-Hardenne hit three double faults in the third game. She hits the ball wide when the Belgian had just came back to advantage.

Henin-Hardenne takes a 4-2 lead but was broken on 15-40 when she served her fifth double fault. On 4-3 Testud tied the set 4 all when Henin-Hardenne could not convert breakpoint Testud hits a winning smash.

Henin-Hardenne started to serve better but hits the net judge shoulder with one of her bad services. She takes a 5-4 lead before breaking Testud in the tenth game and wins the first set while producing 23 unforced errors.

Up to 4-3 Testud could keep up with her Belgian friend in the eighth game however she was broken and left Justine Henin-Hardenne to serve for the match.

Testud takes advantage of Henin-Hardenne’s sloppy serve. After a miss hit going long by Henin-Hardenne, Sandrine Testud is on breakpoint and breaks back when Henin-Hardenne hits the ball into the net.

In the tenth game of the second set Justine Henin-Hardenne attacks with her forehand to finish it off with a smash to get two match points. Trying to take the match the Belgian used her solid backhand shots but netted the fourth one.

On 30-40 Sandrine Testud hits a double fault and ends the match leaving Justine Henin-Hardenne as the winner.

Russian's are the most dangerous opponents out there at the moment with their fast development on the tour and proved it this morning. Maria Sharapova and Nadia Petrova the countries most reputable pair eased past Schwartz and Castano respectively to book a second round clash.
