Top seed Justine Henin-Hardenne cruised into the second round of the Australian Open with a devastating performance over Australian 15-year-old Olivia Lukaszewicz. The world number one, crushed a player ranked 817 making her Grand Slam debut storming to a 6-0 6-0.

The match which only last 45 minutes still caused Henin-Hardenne some problems, making 6 double faults and 17 unforced errors.

She will next face unseeded Camille Pin a friend who travelled with each other on the junior circuit of France in the second round on Wednesday.

Amelie Mauresmo a former runner up in 1999 started in positive mood also thrashing her opponent, Taiwanese wildcard Chia-Jung Chuang 6-1 6-0.

The 2000 champion Lindsay Davenport who was slightly doubtful on making this tournament due to concerns of a shoulder problem to reached the second round with great ease beating Romanian Ruxandra Dragomir Ilie 6-2, 6-3.

Surprise for the Russian youngsters though with 2 of their biggest names going out at the first hurdle. Elena Dementieva and Nadia Petrova bot lost in comprehensive fashion. Dementieva losing to Jelena Jankovic 6-1, 6-4 and Petrova losiing to Aniko Kapros 6-3, 6-3.

But on the other hand 11th seed Vera Zvonareva, comfortably won 6-3, 6-1 over Zuzana Ondraskova of the Czech Republic, number 21 seed Elena Bovina recovered from the loss of the first set to beat Sandra Kleinova of the Czech Republic 4-6, 6-1, 7-5 and Svetlana Kuznetsova, seeded 30, overcame American Shenay Perry 6-3, 6-3.

Other seeds to fall included 31st Tamarine Tanasugarn, 16th Magui Serna, 26th Tina Pisnik, and 17th Meghann Shaughnessy.
