Daniela Hantuchova short and sweet burst of form ended in the third round against Thai's number one Tamarine Tanasugarn in easy fashion Hantuchova whose year has been dreadful compared to last year made to many unforced errors as Tanasugarn rallied 6-2, 6-4 and now faces Amelie Mauresmo who beat Maria Kirilenko 6-4, 6-2.

Lindsay Davenport who now fancies her chances with the Williams sisters out stormed past 20 year old Melinda Czink who ousted Lisa Raymond in the last round. Davenport the 1998 champion has lost to a Williams sister since 1999 and this year that will not be repeated.

The American's foot innjury has not bothered her so far but could later on in the tournament if she gets herself into a tough 3 set battle and needs a lot of running.

Nadia Petrova now has a tough task against Davenport after she thrashed Amanda Coezter 6-0, 6-1 but the Russian who has excelled this year could be a huge threat to the American.

Kim Clijsters the favourite for this Grand Slam which would be her first had a tough clash on paper against Svetlana Kuznetsova. Kuznetsova matched the power of the Belgian world number 1 but couldn't match her court coverage and placement winning 6-3, 6-2. Clijsters will need to improve slightly against Meghann Shaughnessy in the next round after she beat Vera Zvonareva 4-6, 6-4, 6-2 and moves into her first ever 4th round at the US Open.
