Elena Bovina and Daja Bedanova seeded 4th and 12th repsectively both were surprise first round losers at the DFS Classic, Birmingham
Elena Bovina was a loser to Japanese Shiobu Asagoe 6-3, 6-3 whereas 12th seed Daja Bedanova lost to a player that she shouldn't have done.
Venuzuela's Vento-Kabchi 6-2, 4-6, 7-6 in a very tight match that could have gone anyway but the 137th ranked player notched it up a gear and through to her second round match.
The only seed to advance on the second day was American Lisa Raymond who beat Russia's Anastasia Rodionova 6-3, 6-3 and said after that she can beat anybody, "If I am playing well, I can cause trouble for anyone in the world in singles". Maybe sounding her horn a week in advance of the Wimbledon Championships starting a week Monday.
Rain halted the rest of play.
