Monica Seles continued her way through the tournament due to a withdrawl of Amelie Mauresmo after injurying herself during the second set Seles was leading 6-3, 2-2 when the defending champion announced that she could not continue. Mauresmo who only came back from a career threatening injury 3 weeks ago pulled a muscle in her thigh but doesn't seem to be serious.

"I aggravated the abductor during the match. The game before I left the court, I really felt something strong. There is no point in staying on the court if you can't play. I couldn't really move the way I like to move" said the French woman.

Seles now meets Justine Henin-Hardenne in the final after she over came Jennifer Capriati in the other semi-final. Capriati who claimed the first threat in the match went ahead 5-4 in the first set but couldn't close it out only for Henin-Hardenne to claim the set 7-5.

The Belguim dictated much of play in the second set aswell and controlled the pace of the rallies but Capriati claimed the set 6-4.

She then left court for a bathroom break and recieved some treatment but returned to court and powered her way to winners. But Henin-Hardenne always seemed to be in the match and was there to clear up when the American made errors and broke the Capriati serve to win the match 6-4.
