Kim Clijsters defeats Lindsay Davenport to win her 11^th WTA career title. In order to beat the former No. 1 of the world Kim Clijsters had to spray her groundstrokes all over the court. Lindsay Davenport, not the fastest player of the tour, was having trouble with reaching the balls just in time. Not even her length could help her here and Clijsters was finding the spots on the court to outplay the hard-hitting American Davenport.

The 19 year-old from Bree, Belgium took care of Davenport and the windy conditions in Sydney. She looked very well prepared for the first Grand Slam of the season; she also said that she is playing very well en feeling confident for the next two weeks in Melbourne. ‘One day you can play unbelievable tennis and the next day there is so much that can go wrong’ she adds to her comments on the Australian Open that starts next Monday.

Davenport was just glad that she could play again after her knee injury one year ago. She played her sixth adidas International tournament final where she took the title once. Davenport said that she has won enough titles to worry about what next tournaments she is going to win. She said: “There is always disappointment when you don’t win a final, but I felt I never played well enough to have a chance”.

Lindsay Davenport made clear that she really wants the break through and win those titles again but she is very much aware that its not going to happen with the way she played against Kim Clijsters. “So I have to keep fighting and keep plugging away”, Davenport revealed her game tactics for the next matches.
