After coming back for the US Open, after undergoing an ankle surgery in May, Martina Hingis had to realise her comeback came a little too early. She ended the season after she was defeated in Filderstadt in October. The former no 1 in the world Martina Hingis is set to play the Pan Pacific in Tokyo in January.

According to the organisers of the $ 1.3 million tournament in Japan, Hingis is committed to play along with Australian Open defender Jennifer Capriati and fellow American and two times Pan Pacific winner Lindsay Davenport.

Martina Hingis, who is defending her 2002 title at the Tokyo Metropolitan Gymnasium, has already won the Pan Pacific title in 2000, 1999 and 1997. Hingis also won the doubles finals in 2000 (w/Pierce) and 1998 (w/Lucic).

Martina Hingis has dropped to No.10 on the WTA ranking.
