The Boston United case

By Andy Lance
July 19 2002

Boston United have been fined £100,000 and deducted 4 points after they were found guilty of financial irregularities during their Nationwide Conference Championship winning season. Boston's manager Steve Evans has admitted to 4 charges against him, but former Chairman Pat Malkinson has denied 2 charges against him.

The club have been deducted 4 points and fined £100k. The points will be deducted for next seasons Division 3 campaign rather than last seasons Conference campaign. This means the Pilgrims will start on -4 pts.

The news after the two day trial is a bitter blow to Dagenham and Redbridge who were hoping to replace Boston in the football league. We feel for Dagenham who most believe should be the rightful champions.
