Looking forward to Saints

Here we are again back in the Aviva Premiership, will we survive this time? Will there be the development we have all hoped for in seasons past?

There has been lots of speculation about the look of the Warriors match day 23 and whether our pack will be good enough. Well the answers to some of those questions will have some clarity come 10pm on Friday night after the first outing of the season v Northampton Saints, a team/club that many fans hope the Warriors can emulate.

Premiership champions in 2014, Saints have been consistently in the play off places in recent seasons. Their 1st team squad has 39 players with 10 who are not English qualified. The Warriors have a 46 strong squad with 21 non English qualified (Source Wikipedia) giving the Saints a bit more income perhaps when it comes to putting out the required number of English qualified players in a match day 23. Not sure that is going to be a focus in our first season back in the Premiership to be honest, ensuring that we play in the same league next season has to come first.

With all the rumours and column inches given to the expansion of the top flight over the summer and it turning out that the status quo has been preserved, for now, may have led to a bit of a change of strategy for the powers that be at Sixways. I was told in no uncertain terms that “There will be no relegation this season” by a bloke in a pub who said GJ had told him who had got it from DR… So much for that then.. I do think that an agreement was close but who knows why it all fell apart at the last minute.

So we will have to stay up on our own endeavours then and actually win some games. Which ones? As many as we can! I do hope that there will be one or two of the famous wins we have had in the past, Friday night wins against Tigers and Bath still make me smile. A repeat of one of those on the 16th will be very well received!

As fans we have always got on quite well with the Saints faithful, the last game of our first ever season in the premiership, where we both suffered the pain, desperation and ultimately the joy of staying up seems to have created a bond.

With my new season’s shirt waiting to be donned, along with several layers against the cold, I am ready to embark on the next journey into the unknown with my Worcester Warriors. The first attempt at bellowing “COME ON YOU WORCESTER BOYS” may induce a fit of coughing but that won’t stop many more calls from the back of the South Stand.

Can’t wait, bring it on with a smile and head held high and a spring in my step.

Note: To prevent more of my ramblings littering this board, please send your own thoughts to me on a PM and save everyone from more drivel.

Seems ages since last season le alone since we last played you!
Certainly looking forward to the trip and the game and I am hopeful that we may gain a bonus point. However that is always very hard and harder still on the first game of the season when they don't really know what to expect.

Lets just hope that a beer or two can be shared before and after the game.
