Premiership Rugby again next season

Seems a bit like stating the obvious, but there is part of me that can’t quite believe it nearly a month on!

Both of the finals had the sort of last minute result changing score that Warriors fans are used to conceding not scoring. How many times have the faithful seen defeat snatched from certain victory, certainly in the last season we were in the premiership it felt like a regular occurrence.

This new phenomenon is going to put the early leavers in quite a quandary, if it persists. I have spoken to quite a few who left or switched off the 2nd leg at Sixways with 8 minutes to go, only to find out later what they had missed!

I did feel like not looking myself but a good friend reminded me that this is when we need to be REALLY loud, “the lads need us” so I duly yelled my lungs out!

All in all this season has more than met my expectations. I thought that it would be touch and go to get promoted but what I didn’t envisage the success of the A team lads, winning the B&I Cup and coming 2nd in the Aviva Premiership A league to Saracens Storm. The most satisfying thing is how integrated the whole squad is, despite there seeming to be 2 entities, the focus appears to be one vision, hence the ability to slot into the 1st team squad when injuries occurred. This was most obvious for the play off finals when JBB stepped up to the plate in some style.

We all know that in the past this cohesion has been somewhat lacking. It is great credit to the leadership and mentoring of the back room staff led by Dean Ryan that this is no longer the case.

My reticence, some years ago, to Dean coming to Sixways has been blown away by how good things feel at the club. The on field success now looks like it will be matched by Jim O’Toole and his staff as they are patently striving for a better product on match day and for Season Ticket Holders. There is the old adage the Rome wasn’t built in a day, but we do seem to have set very solid foundations for the rugby and the commercial sides of the club. Long may it continue.

That's great as long as we have a competitive team and don't get thrashed every week.

What really got to me was Dean Ryan saying in a post-promotion interview: "We are going to lose more matches than we win next season". He wasn't being negative; he was being realistic. We will be starting the season with expectations that are managed, and DR will plan accordingly. Bring it on.
