Worcester Warriors yesterday parted company with Australian coach Anthony Eddy after 8 consecutive Guinness Premiership defeats this season and an appalling run of form since Christmas 2005. Many of the fans believing AE being the root of the Warrior's current demise.

Well, the news that the majority of Warrior's supporters were hoping for, and quite probably many other fans up and down the country expected to hear.

Worcester Warriors have endured their worst ever run of results as a professional club, and one that may well send them back down to National Division One (mmmmm nice Pasties).

Too little, too late? Too little full stop? Well, only time will tell, but it is widely believed that since the arrival of Anthony Eddy, the current Worcester Warriors players have found implementing Anthony Eddy's style of play and tactics very difficult. It would appear that up until Christmas 2005 the coaching was pretty much in the same veign as under the previous regime, and then it changed, and so did the results........

Cecil Duckworth was interviewed live on BBC H&W this morning. Here is a rough transcript (hopefully I wrote this all down correct):

Why?

It wasn't working. We had initial success, but since Christmas we have not preformed as well as in the first half of the season. It is performance driven, it would seem the players didn't feel we had the right approach for the games. A discussion was had a couple of weeks ago, and they believed they would beat Saints at home (should have) and also at Harlequins, but it didn't happen.

 

Was there a breakdown in the relationship?

No. Anthony Eddy has brought a lot to the club, and brought some things forward. It all comes down to results however. A change is neccessary to get them.

 

New Players?

The players we have are good enough, but the interpretation of the right strategy isn't happening, maybe new players may be  able to do this.

 

Who is now responsible for recruitment?

Essentially Cecil, as he is the owner. Cecil and John Brain will work close toegther, as they have had a good working relationship over the last few years. CD will assist JB in the player negotiations, to ensure he gets the men he wants, but effectively it is JB's decision.

 

Should John Brain have gone too?

JB has a tremendous amount to offer, CD & JB work well together. CD believes that JB is one of the best forwards coaches in the country. The club have a lot of spirit, and will have their backs to the wall for the remainder of the season to ensure Premiership survival.
