Gareth Whalley has become the Bluebirds' first summer signing after passing his medical. The left-winger signs on a free-transfer.
Gareth Whalley is now officially a Bluebird, after passing his medical.
Lawrence officially announced that Whalley had become City's first summer signing at a press conference this afternoon.
Whalley today told the Official site that the main reason behind him moving down a division was the potential Cardiff have to be a big club.
"It was worth taking a step back, to take a big step forward" said Whalley.
Whalley also revealed that he had spoken to his former manager, Dario Gradi who told him that moving to South Wales was a good opportunity.
The 29 year-old, left midfielder, started his professional football career with Crewe Alexandra before making a £600,000 switch to Yorkshire club, Bradford City.
Earlier this year, Bradford released Gareth Whalley turned down a loan-deal, which would have taken him back to Crewe Alexandra. After refusing to move back to Crewe, financial troubles forced Bradford boss, Jim Jeffries to release Whalley.
Over the last few weeks, Whalley has been linked with a few clubs, some in Division One. But Lennie Lawrence was quick to agree personal terms with the player and he has now officially signed.
Hopefully, Whalley can solve the problem Cardiff have on the left-wing, and will establish himself as a first-team regular.
Welcome to Ninian Park Whalley!
