M.S. Dhoni: Adopted Son Of Chennai

By SA
April 30 2008

While Mahendra Singh, or M.S. (lovingly pronounced “Yem Ess”) Dhoni, is no Rajnikanth, he and Chennai are a marriage made in heaven. On one hand, you have the next big thing of World Cricket waiting to find his den after maturing into a Lion and on the other hand, you have one of the most cricket starved, passionate, knowledgeable, and least rewarded fans in the country! First of all, Hats off to Dhoni or should I say “Yem Ess” for sticking up for Sivamani at the end of the Super Kings victory at Bangalore! Those Kanadigas could not stand Sivamani celebrating with the team in the middle of the pitch and boy, Dhoni acted like a real hero there while the rest were having fun! He went and asked the security to not mess with Sivamani. It was great to see those two embracing each other during the presentation ceremony.

Second of all, is Dhoni India's finest captain ever (or at least, the finest captain ever in the making) or what??   IMO He is already that and more!  No point waiting 10 years and then deciding because we have seen enough.  Just look at the way he handled the team today!  Firstly, his batting and the responsibility he showed, wow!  Secondly, his fielding changes and handling of bowlers under pressure, double wow!!. Thirdly, the way he maintained calm after every wicket, triple wow!!! I'm glad we paid so much for him and I'm glad we don't have an washed up over-rated over-supported and over-loved star like how many other sides have! We have someone who has attained stardom in the hard way like Sachin did and will be responsible as a role model in this country. We can rightfully and proudly call him our adopted son!!

Last but not the least , did you see the way Dhoni spoke yet again in post match presentation ? Has there ever been this blatantly honest a Captain for the game ? He openly admits the flaws of this team and is so down to earth about the game . He does not mince his words and does not speak to entertain the crowd or boost his image! He openly said that our bowling is weak and also talked about how it might sound funny but the bowlers didnt shine the ball enough (that’s a great point !) Has there been a bigger boon and reason for this country to move ahead from the era of Dravid, Ganguly, Laxman, etc.?

It is time to seek a new era with Dhoni as the leader? Dhoni is as good as you get . Even Ricky Ponting didn't make Hayden and Hussey speak in awe about him like how they did about Dhoni today.

That’s good ol’ M.S.Dhoni for you . THE ADOPTED SON OF CHENNAI

Its not like haydo and hussy are going to bag him now , are they?
Not unless they want a stint on the bench...
But I agree Dhoni is a top class captain as shown in the odi's in aussie.
A lot of us were impressed with him.

Dhoni has been a mighty impressive captain.

His keeping has been very good as well.

His batting has not lived upto the promise but then
again, going with Indian tradition the captain can keep
his place purely on this captaining..

so far dhoni, warne impressed me as captains. worst captains in IPL --- no prizes for guessing -- vvsl and dravid. i will add bajjy to that list even though he was make-shift. yuvvy is ok, same will veeru although veeru can do lot better. ganguly has lot of backing in his city plus king khan.

Dhoni has excelled as captain - there must be something he brings to the team.

It's surprising to see this loyalty engendered by IPL. Methinks the death of ODI and Test cricket isn't too far. Not to mention ICC and the self-important old farts running it.

It was the bowlers..McGrath,Asif and YoMi started it and Sehwag and Gambhir just clinically and brutally finished them off. Delhi team has the edge with their bowling. Plus they have someone like McGrath for throughout the season.

Interesting to see if Sehwag can remain consistent as he has been, as batsman and captain.

Also now that Dhoni has lost a couple of Aussies (Hayden and Hussey), let's see if he can keep up his team's performance.

Sehwag have the best team in IPL and to top it all, his own batting has been top notch......Dhoni will get another shot at him ....

Dhoni didn't do too well yesterday as captain. His needless decision to promote himself ahead of Suresh Raina cost his team the match. Considering the start they had, I'm pretty sure Superkings would have got 200 had they stuck with the original batting order, and that would have been enough to win, despite the Sehwag onslaught. Badrinath is also being under-utilized by SK. Both him and Raina are quality batsmen, who should come in ahead of Dhoni in most situations.

Will be interesting to see if Dhoni learns from his mistakes, as that is the sign of a good captain.

India - World Cup winners 2011!!!
Champions Trophy winners 2013!!!
Congrats to Indian team and all Indian fans!
