WOLVES eased themselves into the fourth round of the FA Cup with a comfortable win over Plymouth Argyle at Molineux. Leon Clarke's first half goal was all Wolves needed to go through.

FA Cup games can be the most exciting games of the season, but for Wolves today it was more a case of the result than the performance. In the end the Performance was pretty decent but the result was good enough to see Wolves safely into the fourth round draw.

Wolves boss Glenn Hoddle made the unusual step of not naming a goalkeeper on the bench. Paul Ince made his first start since the first month of the season and youngster Mark Davies started the game after recovering from a Hernia operation.

Maurice Ross only seems to play against Plymouth as he made only his second start for Wolves a week after his debut and Lee Naylor was still unfit to play. It was Mark Kennedy who stood in at Left Back.

The game was similar to the league game a week ago with Wolves dominating the play. Mark Davis could have scored four minutes into the game but his chip over the Argyle keeper landed the wrong side of the post.

The impressive Gabor Gyepes then had a header cleared off the line before Wolves' pressure paid off on the 26th minute mark. A cross from Maurice Ross was controlled by Clarke who hammered the ball home from all of two yards,

The Wolves striker - who has been terribly out of form in recent weeks - showed his anger at the Wolves fans who had doubted him by putting his finger to his lips as the Southbank celebrated.

The second half was similar to the first for the best part and both Colin Cameron and Kenny Miller could have doubled the lead, Argyle - who had played defensively for 80 minutes - briefly tried to get back into the game, but their only shot on target remained a speculative effort from 30 yards in the closing stages of the first half.
