Match Thread: Wolves v Manchester City - new season 25/26

Here we go again, it's the new season opener with Wolves hosting pre season title hopefuls Manchester City. Good luck to this revamped Wolves side ..... we made need it!

Time flies doesn't it, just a moment ago spring finished and a late rally from Wolves meant we stayed up, comfortably. Time also flies in Devon and a number of issues have conspired against me with this now very truncated opening match thread. Apologies.

Everything in the build up suggests we will be up against it this afternoon with the KO, as I write, just 25 minutes away. We will see and of course we have produced some great and unexpected results in the past ...... despite the poor pre season.

0 -2 we had the ball in their net twice, but offside. Only 1 of the three new players started.

Sounds like we have given a good account of ourselves in spells but you can't fall asleep against City and so we were punished. Hope VP can keep the squad momentum up for the second half.

We did ok then city scored and it was men against boys for the rest of the game.
Powder puff all over the pitch, Agbadou had a mare to.
If this aint a wake up call to fosun what is?
To many class players have left this club and sadly not replaced with the same quality.
On a brighter note we aint going to play city every week.
Lovely tribute to jota by the way, the fans did him proud.

Wolves have beat City 3 times in recent years both home and away in the league. A loss at home being accepted as inevitable to any team is BS particularly when Man city's away record last season was 8 wins and 6 defeats in the league so hardly a fixture to fear. A 4-0 defeat described as giving " a good account of ourselves" is utterly ridiculous.

Not to be unexpected given how good City are and how poor our pre-season has been. Reasonable until they scored and then it was pretty much a stroll for them. It picked up a bit when the substitutions were made but not much. Agbadou is nowhere near the player he was last season. He had a pi55 poor pre-season and it seems to have carried on. Munetsi offside three times in the first half alone, and it seemed like more. He's incapable of looking across the line and if we are not going to play him in midfield then don't play him. Next couple of matches we 'should' pick up some points so UTW.

We clearly have some major issues, not least because we weren’t able to score when we had our chances, just wide, saved or offside. The offsides appeared entirely avoidable in the main. Nevertheless I felt we played well in spells, especially in the first half and definitely should not have been 0-2 at HT. As for the additional two goal, fair enough, of course they were the better side but 0-4 was harsh in my opinion. Man City were utterly clinical.

It’s a wake up call though, if we didn’t know it already. Hopefully Jeff and co will smell the tea because competing is okay, but we need to find the back of the net.

Agbadou was disappointing for sure. His pre season uncertainty continued, and I’m not at all sure about Hoever either. Larsen needs better support too. I felt Wolfe looked off the pace but has a terrific name.

It’s the first match though, elements were good and that’s what Vitor and us fans need to hang onto, the next two matches are a real test for our side and will give us all a good guide to where we are heading. Bournemouth away and Everton at home are both stiff challenges where we must / have to perform. I had the chance to go to Dean Court next week, gutted that can’t get there for a rare away trip, but will be there to see Mr Grealish and the Toffees.

I think the points are correct just not the GD, but given that the winner tends to finish on -60 goals, not sure it matters. I don't think the title has ever finished with a tie after all the games
