Match Thread: Fulham FC vs Wolves

Sad to see

Wolves travel to Craven Cottage London today, to star in tonight's SKY TV's Monday Night Football show against Fulham. For once Fulham are below Wolves in the Premier League table and are struggling for form, so an opportunity exists for Wolves to build on recent positive performances.

Wolves will be looking to build on their recent last-gasp home win against Spurs by beating a team which has failed to win in their past four games and has lost their last two. Whilst being 7 points above the relegation zone their position will still worry their Manager Marco Silva and, no doubt, their fans as they are struggling for goals since the departure of their main man Alexander Mitrovic during the close season.

Wolves fans will no doubt give very good applause to former player Raul Jimenez if he makes an appearance after his summer move to Fulham. Raul has struggled to score so far this season only notching one goal in his last match but still presents a danger having something to prove to his new supporters. Wolves' other departure to Fulham during the summer was by the out-of-contract Adama Traore, but he has only played eight minutes so far this season due to injury and is unlikely to feature in tonight's game.

Head Coach Gary O'Neil has given a very upbeat press conference about his team and the squad he has available for this match, implying that new signing Santi Bueno is the logical replacement for the suspended Craig Dawson in defence, but also suggesting that Matt Doherty or Hugo Bueno could be brought in. Sadly Pedro Neto is still recovering from his hamstring injury and, whilst making good progress, is unfit for this game, so it will be interesting to see who starts in attack this evening - whether he will stick with Cunha, Sasa and Hwang or if Pablo Serabia will be brought in after his superb substitute appearance against Spurs. The question also exists as to O'Neil's attitude to Fabio Silva, and whether he will give him a run in the team as an opportunity to prove his worth before the January window opens or if he just doesn't fit into his plans.

Tonight's game will kick off at 8pm and can be watched on Sky Sports Main Event or Sky Sports Football. Our referee will be Michael Salisbury who, on VAR duty singularly failed to ask Simon Hooper to review his decision not to award Wolves a penalty at Old Trafford. He will be assisted by Stuart Atwell on VAR Duty this evening.

This board will do it's best to provide regular updates on the progress of the match, and members and visitors are encouraged to post their own observations and opinions and to join in the pre and post match conversation.

Seems we have a fully fit squad apart from Neto so GON will be able to consider various formations and tactical ideas. Dawson suspended which is a loss but I think that we are stronger throughout than Fulham so three points should be achievable as long as the effort is there which has been on show in recent matches. We seem to know where the back of the net is now and Fulham are
prone to conceding so I expect at least one goal, possibly more. I would like to see Belgarde playing on the right and perhaps Doyle taking one of the midfield positions as a little creativity could be problematic for Fulham who can be a little static at times. Anyway, good luck for tonight lads. Cmon!!

Just one change for the starting Xl this evening with Santiago Bueno stepping in for Craig Dawson. Pablo Serabia is on the bench again. Raul starts for Fulham but Traore doesn't make their squad. Line-up:

Great play by JRB into the area after a feed from Semedo his pass across the area finds Cunha’s head for the equaliser

Doc well set up for a shot in the box but it’s on his left foot so he passes and loses it. Iwobi takes a shot but it’s wide. Good passing play by F’ham but breaks down with a poor pass from Willian.

27/11/2023 20:34
Cunha’s first thought in possession is always to attack. Santi Bueno doing OK on the left sidenof defence with Maxin the centre. Joao Gomes will miss the Arsenal game on Sat after getting his 5th yellow card for a foul on Willian

Good keeping by Jose to deny Willian close to. Corner to Wolves earned by Hwang, Toti works into the area and crosses nicely but it’s blocked just before reaching Cunha

Corner to F’ham cleared by Max then Cunha gets a throwbin and celebrates in front of home fans!! Into final 5 minsbof first half.

Leno loses possession in his area but the angle is too tight for Lemina to capitalise and they recover. 3 minutes added

Cheshire wolf
27/11/2023 20:51
No further chances andbhalf time whistle goes. A very even game so far with both teams attacking at ever6 opportunity. F’ham have had more shots than Wolves but both teams have had chances. Wolves have pressed well and played out well from the back. Santi Bueno has appeared very comfortable alongside Max, whilst our midfield have well supported by the always available Cunha.

No changes as the second half starts, and Robinson again threatens down our right wing for a corner which is cleared. Doc & Semedo have swapped sides! Robinson gets another corner off Doc cleared by Max.

27/11/2023 21:14
Castagne gets to acrossfrom Hwang just before Doc can. Leno fumbles the corner but survives. Another penalty conceded by our defence against Semedowhich probably won’t be overturned

Cheshire wolf
27/11/2023 21:17
He gets a touch on the ball before catching Cairney’s foot which isbeing closely looked at by Stuart Atwell in VAR. Willian takes and puts it to ghe left of Jose Sa

Wolves break and Semedo gets a shot away by Leno takes easily. Sasa Kalajdzic replaces Belleguard who has had a good game

Cheshire wolf
27/11/2023 21:29
Good break by Wolves until a poor pass from Hwang. F’ham having the majority of possession frustrating Wolves. Iwobi breaks and shoots but Jose saves well for a corner. Another poor pass from Hwang breaks down a good attacking chance

Cheshire wolf
27/11/2023 21:35
Gomes feeds Lemina beautifully but his shot is tame. Hwang bipundled over in the area by Reem and a penalty awarded to Wolves for our first this season, agreed with by VAR. Hwang to take it and he smashes it straight down the middle.
F’ham 2 Wolves 2
Wilson replaces Raul and Vinicious replaces Pereirafor F’ham

Cheshire wolf
27/11/2023 21:38
Great chance for Doc in the box but again acweak pass loses it. Iwobi shoots from the edge of the box but Jose collects well. This game could really go either way.

Seven minutes added!

27/11/2023 21:53
VAR still looking at the Gomes challenge on Wilson in the area, contactvwas minimal and Wilson played for it. Ref advised to review it and of course another penalty given aginst Wolves.
Willian yo take it and he outs it in Jose’s right corner
A real sickener

2 extra minutes have been played and Wolves have not had a chance to level but get a free kick & Sa goes up. VAR check for handball but not given. Lemina overhits a pass forward sadly. 101 minutes played and the whistle goes.
Wolves suffer another two penalties tonight and get one of their own. The second Fulham pennwas very, very soft with Wilsonplaying for it successfully after a review by the ref. A very even game for which a draw would have been a very fair result. Oh well….. only Arsenal away next!!
Fulham 3 Wolves 2

Our friend VAR seems to have visited again?
Was only able to listen to the commentary and Gomes seemed to be constantly involved but now not available for Arsenal match.
Bueno sounded as if he coped well with his first full match.
Predicted a 3_1 win for us ***** well.

I was wondering whats you’d make of all that. FFing VAR is absolutely doing my head in.

Another situation where a well known football styled Tom Daley aka Wilson, dives but fools everybody it seems. And I thought their first penalty was dodgy enough.

And Ream, already on a yellow for our penalty, no second yellow.

And Vinicious going for a head butt on Kilman but no red.

In the words of the late David Coleman ….. “Quite remarkable”.

How did we lose that, what on earth is football coming to.

On the pitch, we did okay, started slow but as an away fixture more than matched that Fulham side. I’ll be interested to read O’Neils views on all that.

Arsenal Saturday. UTW

From BBC

“Wolves manager Gary O'Neil says he has been to the referee's room and claims Michael Salisbury told him he should've been told to check the first penalty Fulham were given and that it had been a mistake to award it.”

And that’s just the first penalty. It’s all absolute boll.ox

I wonder how the VAR decisions have affected the prediction league?

Badly for me 😅. In all seriousness, VAR and awarding pens has destroyed football as a sport. Penalties are game changers and should not be given bar clear and obvious..any doubt it shouldn't be awarded. I didn't see the game, ( in poland) but wouldn't even in the UK. How many times now have ref decisions decided our results

Lupy

🤣🤣
I agree Angry, VAR does quite well regarding offside and goal line decisions but to introduce another subjective human view just serves to undermine the referee in charge and take all the spontaneity and thrill out of the game. It reduces the game to a poor computer simulation. The quicker it is binned the better.
Enjoy your time in Poland.

Yet more dodgy VAR decisions go against us, I'm losing count now, we will soon pass evertons 10 point deduction with all the points we are being robbed of and we haven't broken any rules!
Really poor decisions again it's beyond belief really that these clowns are being paid very handsomely to come to these pathetic and unjust outcomes.
Reem should of had a second yellow, there should of been a straight red for a head butt (kilman should of gone down like every other team does) and neither of fulams pens were pens, every bloody decision they got wrong, you couldn't make it up!
Var was supposed to be brought in for clear and obvious errors.
Fulams second penalty the ref doesn't give it so why on earth that clown Attwell gets involved in the VAR room I have no idea, it's not a clear and obvious mistake by the ref is it? Everybody who watched the game can see Wilson played for it except the people that matter the clowns running VAR. ( WE ALL KNOW ATTWELL CANT MISS A CHANCE TO SCREW WOLVES OVER YET AGAIN)
I think it's no secret attwell doesn't like wolves, it goes all the way back to the Nuno days.
This VAR rubbish can't go on like this, it's killing the game I love and the club I love!
Heads need to roll but it won't happen, and they can stuff their apologies where the sun don't shine!
