Match Thread: Wolves vs Bournemouth AFC

What A Start!

By Wolves
February 18 2023

Today's game at Molineux surely gives Wolves the chance to pull away from the relegation struggle and into mid table of the Premier League, when they face second bottom team strugglers Bournemouth.

Julen Lopetegui and his team will be looking to build on their fine performances of the last two weeks which have seen excellent victories over Liverpool and Southampton, and lifted them into 15th place in the table. However JL is warning that today's game is likely to be difficult as he thinks Bournemouth are a good team. Wolves fans will no doubt recall the dour midweek game played at the Vitality stadium where the team did everything they could to score but the game finished goalless, and will be hoping that the recent scoring prowess of the team will continue.

The new signings brought into the squad in January have certainly had an impact on the team's performances, with Craig Dawson and Joao Gomes both scoring on their debuts, and Pablo Serabia and Matheus Cunha providing a new attacking pairing. Adama Traore also continues to make a substantial impact as a substitute and was unlucky not to actually score last week when Bednarek ultimately put through his own net.

Wolves will sadly be without Mario Lemina after his ridiculous red card at Southampton - a shame as he has already established himself as a midfielder with some metal to command alongside Neves and Nunes. However it does seem that Daniel Podence and Pedro Neto (at long last) are happily ready to return to the starting line-up, which will give JL the sort of selection headaches he surely desires. Bournemouth are likely to have four players unavailable including long serving and experienced defender Steve Cook.

Today's match will kick off at 3pm and will not be televised. It will be refereed by newcomer Michael Salisbury, with Tony Harrington on VAR Duty.

This board will endeavour to provide regular updates on the progress of the game for those unable to otherwise follow it, and members are encouraged to post their own observations and join in the conversation.

I rarely listen to any manager interview as it is always the same generic guff about xyz are a good team. I've never heard yet a manager say " well it's a big game against a sh1te team we should be beating". There is no real honesty in interviews so what's the point of them. Just play the game and leave it at that I say.

Leminas red card was possibly the worst decision I've seen in football btw and the reason given of " He was the 3rd player to approach the ref" says it all.

So Adama Traore's performances in the last two games earn him a starting place today, with Hugo Bueno also replacing Ait-Nouri at the back. Only surprise is that Neto isn't in the squad. Line-up:

Perhaps not the walkover some might imagine but, nonetheless I would be surprised to we don't take all three points.

Cunha goes down in the box wanting a pen but nothing given. Surprised to see Max wearing a face guard - must have been injured in training - or at home!!
Good run into box by Matheus earns a corner

Nunes looks up for it today so far. I’m on a stream at the moment and it’s pretty poor.

Semedo fed down the right side and puts in a good ball which is put out just before Pablo can convert.

That should have worried B’mouth, who have just scored through Tavernier. Offside needs to be checked of course but probably OK

Lots of silly errors and poor passes being made. Everton also beating Leeds & S’ton still ahead

Yellow card for Sarabia after a desperate tackle. B’mouth have had one shot on goal all game & scored from it!!

Nothing works for Wolves despite 12 corners! Final whistle goes and we lose 1-0 which takes B’mouth out of the bottom 2 for now. So the battle at the bottom goes on. It seems like one of those ‘bad days at the office’ for Wolves and JLo.
Wolves 0 B’mouth 1

That's burst our bubble a bit and some tough fixtures coming up

One.of those days loosely translates to football having huge elements of random chance to it. Unless the team is exceptionally bad or good, results are determined on trivial things like how much sleep players have had. No idea who we play next week, but we will probably get a result just based on the randomness of a sport of 22 men kicking a ball around. Liverpool lost Mane and are one of those teams like us currently below Brentford in the league. I'm glad I didn't watch today....not that anyone can watch a match in 2023 anyway unless a criminal is paid for some kind of fire stick in a dodgy subway somewhere.

Poor result and poor performance, not sure what went wrong today but we never got going and Bournemouth were well organised.
We looked toothless yet again.
Back in trouble after the other results today and some tough games ahead.

Managed to listen to most of the second half via the official website. Must admit I like the commentary as Thommo (and today Lee Naylor) are very happy to call it like it is …… which today was an all round poor performance, nothing seemed to work. Perhaps it was just one of them days? Certainly hope so …… Fulham next up on Friday night coming.

The worst thing about the day were the results in general, Everton, Southampton, Forest all gaining point on us …… and Bournemouth, of course. West Ham play tomorrow.

Unbelievably disappointed especially given the euphoria of our last home match.

What a ridiculous state of affairs it is where fans are having to scramble around for broken streams, radio coverage etc in 2023. I think this will be my last season taking much of an interest in football. No fault of the manager, owners or even the club, but the whole experience is just incredibly stale. I cant remember the last time other than the first lpool game I saw 90 mins of wolves play without p1ssing about missing huge chunks of it. I suppose if you can get to the odd game it makes a difference, but I'm not driving 7 hours round trip to watch a 90 minute game. The whole football model needs a massive shakeup from lack of tv coverage to obscene wages to VAR to city breaking every rule under the sun financially destroying the competitive nature of the prem. I'm fcking sick of it all.
