Match Thread: Wolves vs Leeds United

After a disappointing run of three losses, Wolves now face the opportunity of completing three back to back wins. After the home win against Watford and the away defeat of Everton Bruno Lage's team tonight welcome Leeds United under their new Manager Jesse Marsch to Molineux.

After Everton eventually managed a late, late win against Newcastle United at Goodison Park last evening, Leeds will now be feeling the pressure to earn some points this evening, in their own fight to avoid getting dragged into the botoom three of the Premier League. They will no doubt be bolstered by the potential return to the starting line up of midfielder Kalvin Phillips and captain Liam Cooper, whilst striker Patrick Bamford will presumably retain his place after returning to the team last weekend after a lengthy injury lay-off.

Wolves boss Bruno Lage expects Hwang Hee Chan to be fit to play after his early exit at Everton, but  Nelson Semedo, Ki-Jana Hoever and Pedro Neto - who has now sustained a foot injury - will be unfit to play. Fans will be keen to see whether Max Kilman will retain his place in the back three, or be replaced again by fit-again Willy Boly who excelled against Watford, and whether Rayan Ait-Nouri will return to his berth on the left wing, whilst Jonny Otto is likely to continue on the right wing. In his press conference Bruno appears to have assessed the threat presented by Leeds playing their uptempo pressing game, but has given little away as to whether he will continue with a midfield three or return to a front three.

Tonight's game will be screened live on Sky Football and Main Event, kicking off at 8pm, and will be refereed by Kevin Friend with Jarred Gillet on VAR duty.

This board will endeavour to provide regular updates as the match progresses for those unable to otherwise follow it, and board members are encouraged to  contribute their own observations and join in the conversation.

Two changes to tonight's starting Xl. Big Willy Boly does get another start with Max dropping to the bench, and Rayan Ait-Nouri returns to left wing back. A three man midfield with Podence and Jimenez up front. Line-up:

Dendonker is capable of doing the hard running so he will be important tonight linking the midfield and forward line. Could be a feisty match and Neves is on a bit of a tightrope so will need to be careful. Good to see RAN back in the starting lineup. Cmon lads.

Trincao - as you all know, I’m his number 1 fan!! What a player 🥳😂

Leeds, despite all their attacking, let’s face it they should have been 2 up, they always keep the opposition fans and players interested ……. Great first half.

More of the same second half!!!

Raul collides with Meslier outside the area & both are down. Not sure there is blame on either part for the collision. Raul gets a ridiculous second yellow card & is sent off.

Really dont agree with that red - what was Raul mean to do then he got cleaned out himself

Danger now

All over. The worst referee we have had at Molineux this season led to us playing with ten men for the majority of the second half and let Leeds back into the game. They took the opportunity & created mistakes in our defence & scored 3 times amid calamitous events at the back for us. This result means far mor3 to Utd than us, but is still very disappointing for us after a fine first half performance.

Eventually managed to get a stream and what a match!!
Should never have been a red card and that decision cost us the match. Did we see the real Trincao this evening, if it wasn’t just a one off then let’s have more of it, I’m impressed. What was impressive was Bruno s attacking attitude even when we were down to ten men, hats off.
Officials were abysmal tonight even if it was a blood and guts battle.

We were cruising to victory till rauls sending off. Very poor decision by friend he had a shocking game. But we just didn't manage the game after that, the defence were all over the place, thought boly had a really poor 2nd half. Leeds were their usuall dirty selves trying to kick us off the pitch. Gutted after that really hard to take.

The Raul sending off, the pivotal moment of the match, was an absolute disgrace of a decision . Two players going head on for a vital challenge, both getting cleaned out, no blame, that’s football, full blooded. Up steps Kevin Friend ….. dreadful decision. If you looked at it from at least one of the angles, you could have argued the keeper should have been booked, but personally that would be disingenuous.

Then, moments of absolute madness from our defence and two goals. Watching the goals over a number of times, take your pick for you lead man in the keystone cops, RAN, Saiss, Boly and even Sa, the ,latter getting it so wrong for the second goal. Overall, despite the pathetic referring, our defenders should have done so much more ….. they were all over the place.

As for a match, well it wasn’t, more or a refereeing inspired freak show, I’m sure it was a good one for the neutral and the outcome has gone a long way to spoil what was clearly the best performance by Trincao in a Wolves shirt. I’ve never been a great fan but fairs, fair, he made one, scored one, hit the post and was a bit of a fulcrum of all our good first half.

Still, not to be. Kevin Friend, take a bow. Disgraceful.

Not sure the last time I saw a match with so many stoppages.
I rarely attack officials but that lot, especially that mutant of a referee, were absolutely pathetic. Some of the things they missed were beyond obvious. These late flags for offside do my swede. The sending off too ridiculous for words.
All that being said, we were 2-0 up with less than half the match to go.
Rubbish defending from both sides, from Wolves point of view the first two goals. The swipe at the ball by Saiss when he was trying to clear dropped us right in it for their equalizer.
Hopefully the injury to Neves doesn't keep him out too long.
On a positive note, that was easily Trincao.s best match, fingers crossed it's not a one-off.
One of the worst refereeing displays in a long time.
