Wolves visit neighbours Aston Villa today for the first of only two Midlands derbies this season. To the great discredit of our TV companies the game is not being treated as an important derby and being screened live in the same way the Manchester or Liverpool derbies will surely be.
Coach Bruno Lage will be hoping to continue the winning form that has seen his side take six points from their last two games, and to continue Villa's losing form after they lost at Spurs last time out. Games at Villa Park have been notoriously tight affairs in recent years with Wolves doing well there since their return to the Premiership. However Dean Smith has brought about a huge improvement in his side since joining them 3 years ago and has used the money from the sale of Jack Grealish wisely to bring in some very decent players.
It appears all Wolves players have returned from International duty unscathed except for Fransisco Trincao who is training at home having been diagnosed with Covid-19, so he will be unable to play today. The question then is whether he will be replaced by Adama Traore or Daniel Podence. Willy Boly is also clearly well recovered from his injury now and it will be interesting to see whether he will regain his first team place or remain on the bench.
Today's game will kick off at 15:00Hrs and will be officiated by the very experienced Michael Oliver. The newly appointed referee Jarred Gillet will be on VAR duty.

It’s good to be back playing league matches after the international break, they are such a nuisance and break up the teams routines, not just ours.
No better match to start things going again than a midlands derby and expect it to be a cracking battle.
Cmon lads, let’s do this.
Rau Jiminez played for Mexico on Thursday so he drops to the bench today, replaced upfront by Adama Traore. Dendoncker also slots into a three-man midfield in place of Trincao. Line-up:
Chan is playing down the centre with Adama on the left and Donk playing on the right of midfield. Good break forward by Semedo. Neves clattered by Targett but ref sees it as a fair challenge
Good effort from McGinn from 25 yds out but goes wide. Traore breaks but brought down by McGinn. Poor clearance attempt from Kilman lets Watkins in but we’ll tackled by Neves
Cash skins Marcal down our left wing & puts a good ball in for Buendia, but he puts it wide. Then Douglas Luiz puts a loose clearance over out bar. We need to tighten up on some of our passing and try & control the ball better
Saiss brings down Buendia & gets a lecture but no card. Villa break superbly and Ings gets a shot away but Jose Sa saves well. Corner well cleared. Wolves not seeing much of the ball and certainly not posing any threat yet
Marcal links up well with Adama down the left and his cross earns us a corner off Mings. Neves puts a fantastic ball into the area which just evades Coady & Saiss. Much better from Wolves at the moment
Poor control from Chan sees the ball out for a Villa throw. Hard work by Semedo up against Mings earns us a corner. Joao puts it over but it bounces off Max’s head & out!
Another good break by Villa until Cash smashes it over the bar. Good spell of play by Wolves ends up with NS offside. 3 added minutes to play at the end of 1st half

Half time whistle sounds. A busy first half which in the end was fairly even. Ings and Traore both had good chances to score and produced good saves from Sa & Martinez. Some good play from Wolves but they always seem to be looking for the perfect pass rather than moving forward in attack. Villa have been dangerous and wayward in some of their finishing, but otherwise an enjoyable game to watch.
Aston Villa 0 Wolves 0
Intense area of Villa attacking ends with a great ball in by McGinn headed in by Ings who always seems to score against us. No chance for Sa
Villa 1 Wolves 0

Dreadful pass by Joao leads to a poor Halle be by Neves which gets him a yellow card. High tempo play from both sides - Adama has a shot blocked then Villa get a corner off Saiss. Donk gets a shot away which fails to dip and goes high.
Deserved yellow card for Mings for time wasting. Traore breaks down the left and his cross is putout for a corner. Neves puts a second poor cross over to nobody - where has his skill gone?? Some dreadfully poor passing giving away possession by both teams., but Villa can afford it better than Wolves
Miscalculated my coastal walk today and missed the first half.
Once again approach play is okay but some of the passing, ball retention and crossing is below par.
Cmon Wolves!!
Nakamba replaces Luiz for Villa. Hwang gives the ball away in our own area which eventually goes to McGinn who smashes it home from outside the area. Some awful mistakes and that was the worst!!
Villa 2 Wolves 0
Podence prepared to join the game although we really need Raul to provide the threat that Chan doesn’t present. Looks like Fabio also coming on. Podence replaces Joao and Fabio on for Marcal
Another great run up left wing by Adam gets a corner. Nakamba fouls Neves for a free kick to the right of their area, which earns another corner. Ramsey on for Buendia and Ashley Young on for Cash. Fabio gets us another corner. PD gets it into the area eventually and Saiss converts from PD’s cross close in
Villa 2 Wolves 1
Good play by PD and he scoops the ball over to Fabio but he can’t connect. Raul being prepared to join the game as we seek the draw. CC earns a corner after more good work by PD
Conor Coady scores after a ruck in their area
Villa 2 Wolves 2
Adama earns a free kick 5 yds outside their box. Just where Neves would have wanted it years ago!! Come on Ruben….. and he puts it through the wall for his first goal of the season!!
Villa 2 Wolves 3
All over and we have taken the most unlikely 3 points after being 2-0 down. Who would have forecast goals from Saiss, Coady and an own goal?? A thoroughly good game to watch although really frustrating at times. Bruno never gave up and always made positive substitutions and they paid off. We should be early on MOTD tonight.
Aston Villa 2 Wolves 3
Great result although our winner did spoil my prediction!
Fantastic team effort, never put their heads down and seemed to have a high level of belief that paid off in the end. Really good effort from our midfield who worked tirelessly for the whole match and the introduction of DP proved a master stroke, well done Bruno.
Traore must surely score soon gaining us free kicks is fine but he needs to hit the back of the net to up his confidence.
MOM — for me it would be Ruben.
I’m still trying to come back down to ground level!!
Oh my word, that was an outstanding finish to a match Villa looked to have had wrapped up.
I am ecstatic. It was superb, Jumping around like a loon!!!
80th minute for our first goal and to be honest, the tide turned ….. and in no small reason down to Podence whose introduction and contribution seemed to add the guile and positivity we really needed.
The Saiss goal really gave me some hope, Coady’s goal got me me leaping out of my seat, the Neves deflection sent me ruining around the house!!
Wonderful ….. I love football …. And the icing on the cake …. Versus the Villa!!!
Fantastic. What a comeback!
The celebration after Conor's goal was something else. Ok, the third took a deflection but so did their second.
Podence made a big difference.
Maybe not a classic performance but
what pi55es me off is that I have watched a couple of youtube reports on the match by supporters who say how Bruno got his selection wrong and that we should have played so and so and played in a certain way. We won so like it or lump it, Bruno got it right. UTW.
Don't you just love a win against villa? Not sure how we managed it but who cares. Great comeback and i dont think anyone saw it coming. Podence changed the game. Great scenes in the away end with that 95 minute winner. Oh yes get in.
