Match Thread: Wolves vs Crystal Palace

Wolves v Eagles

By Wolves
October 30 2020

Wolves second home game of the week sees Crystal Palace visit Molineux for the second time in just over three months. Palace currently sit in 8th place in the Premiership, one place ahead of Wolves on goal difference, so tonight should see a keen competition.

Coach Nuno Espirito Santo will be in no doubt of the difficulty his team will have beating Roy Hodgson's team, which largely defends and plays to score on the counter attack. They recently had only one shot on target in their home game to Brighton, and that was the penalty they scored!! However they still have some players who can cause problems for any team, notably Wilf Zaha who injured his knee in a collision with a goalpost when scoring at the weekend, so he may not be fully mobile this evening.

In the game at Molineux in July new boy Daniel Podence opened his account with the first goal after great play involving Joao Moutinho and Matt Doherty. The second goal was scored with a right footed shot from left wing-back Jonny who is sadly still on the injured list.

Nuno will clearly be looking for more attacking adventure and goals in the first half of tonight's game rather than always leaving it to the second half, and his team selection cannot be predicted. Adama Traore will surely be itching to have another start soon, but Podence and Neto have been perfoming well too. Marcal made his second appearance from the bench on Sunday following his injury lay-off and may be in line for a starting place instead of Saiss, but then will Max Kilman keep his place??

The hugely experienced Martin Atkinson will referee tonight's game

The game has perhaps controversially been selected to be shown on BT Box OfficeHD (Channel 490) as a Pay Per View which will cost £14:95. It is claimed by the Premier League that this money will go to the club. The programme starts at 19:45 Hrs and the match kicks off at 20:00

This board will hopefully carry regular updates, and board members are encouraged to post their observations of the game for the benefit of those unable to watch it.

Should be a good match and the result will be decided by which of our teams turns up tonight.
I don’t think Palace will come to sit back so we will have to be defensively sound but am hoping that we try to get at their defence with a little more intent.
Three points hopefully.
Cmon lads.

One very interesting change for tonight's game with new signing Ait-Nouri in at left wing back, and Marcal not in the squad. Kilman keeps his place too. Line-up:

What’s happened to Marcal, injured? Thought he was a strong contender to start tonight.

So we’ll get to see Ait-Nouri. Good luck to him.

For the record, we win tonight by 8 and we go top 👍🐺⚽️

Well.... Ivy and were each going to use the PPV option tonight but as we have BT through Sky rather than directly we can’t do so!! So we are probably with the rest of you hoping for a good continuous stream. OK so far, and English commentary too!!

Penalty to Palace. Seems a really soft one to me. Against Boly who didn’t tackle the lad who went down like a sack of spuds.

Wait .......... Van Arnold looks offside!! VAR says he is, no penalty 😂😂😂😂

https://i.pinimg.com/236x/74/97/b1/7497b1d1e231e8f83fc02db12bc473da--uk-football-sports-logos.jpg

Cheshire wolf
30/10/2020 20:42
Penalty given against Boly which is unlikely to be overruled by VAR, but Van Arnholt may have been offside anyway, which is the verdict!, didn’t look much of a penalty either to be fair to Willy

30/10/2020 20:44
It was never a penalty anyway, sick to death of these pathetic taps or players collapsing to the ground looking for pens, the palace player fell over bolys leg

Cheshire wolf
30/10/2020 20:54
Neto very nearly catches out Guita in the top corner. Somedo smashes the corner over the bar at the end of 2 added minutes.
A great entertaining first half from both teams, but particularly our team, adventurous forward play especially down the wings from Neto, DP, Ait Nouri and DP. Lovely to see our newest player get a well taken goal on his Debut, and for DP to get his second league goal, once again against Palace. Place unlucky to have a goal and a penalty chalked off by VAR for offside.
We need to keep this up and for once put a team to the sword
Wolves 2 Palace 0

Ivybridge Wolf
30/10/2020 20:54
HT 2-0

Palace came into a little in the last 10 minutes, however that was a great first half from our team! Started so well, many chances, two excellent goals, the cherry being a very good first half from our new lad Ait-N. So many players playing well, good possession, good passing, great team work. Coady just brilliant at the back again.

A couple of danger signs, the penalty and disallowed goal but we have been the dominant side. Great stuff Wolves!

All over and finishes 2 - 0 to Wolves. Such a shame we couldn’t build on the first half performance after the break, but a good defensive performance needed second half as Palace threatened more. A very good team display from our team, and we rode our luck when VAR rightly helped us out. That takes us to the dizzy heights of joint top place with E’ton & L’pool - who would have thought!!

Excellent performance overall, first half was as good as I can remember with an expected lull in the second half but saw the game out relatively comfortably. Full backs are such an underestimated part of any team , they provide not just defensive assets but offensive ones with people underestimating how much they offer with runs down the flanks/ crosses etc. In Semedo and Ait Nouri we have two of the best in the prem and both particularly the latter created problems for palace all evening. Joint top of the table (Sm152)

30/10/2020 22:08
Much better game tonight, Ait Nouri looks a natural, clever, fearless and more than adequate competition for Jonny.
Neto very consistent and Kilman gives the opposition no quarter.
Podence always effective and getting better with each match, all we need now is for Fabio to get up to speed and we will be a challenge for anyone.
Traore not the “go to” player of last season, he has some serious competition now and doesn’t have the same work ethic of Podence or Neto.
Great to watch.
Well done lads.

😂

Red card debates aside, what a lovely feeling this morning, grim weather yes, but my Wolves endorphins are still circulating in good concentration. Football and Wolves sometimes cannot be beaten, trouble is like any dose of good stuff, the next match cannot come quick enough and a week tomorrow v Leicester is too long to wait.

So many positives from last night, right across the whole team, multiple MOTMs. We ‘re-clicked’ and it was a tremendous watch both in style and substance. Exciting in attack, resilient in defence.

A word for our captain. This lad is class, on and off the pitch. Win, draw or defeat, he gives us his all for the cause and yesterday his leadership, marshalling, positioning, determination, distribution and quality exemplified the performance as a whole. We are lucky indeed to have Conor Coady at the club, a Wolves gem.

It was a super night - in the main!!

First issue was that I was going to pay for the BT coverage but couldn't as I am essentially a Sky customer, and by the time Ivy told me how to I had already given the TV over to my wife. So at least Hesgoal came up trumps with a good stream and English commentary, but then this site started repeatedly telling me "only registered members can make a comment", which isn't easy to sort out when you are trying to watch a great game and make comments!! Anyway eventually sorted out.

What a great game to watch, especially as all the attacking play we have been craving in our previous games was there for all to see from kick off. Neto and Podence were superb down the wings, Neves and Donk excellent and solid in midfield, and our back three stood up so well to the threats that Palace posed under the masterful command of Captain Coady. Kilman is looking more and more comfortable with each game he plays. As for our wing backs, Nelson is showing more and more confidence as the season progresses, and is presenting as a real attacking threat linking up well with the wingers and midfield. Rayan Ait-Nouri. What a star!! Nobody new what to expect but he showed athleticism, creativity, mobility and good judgement, and what a delight to see him score on his debut. Marcal may well struggle to get his place back when he is fit!!

All credit to Nuno for sticking with DP and Neto - which has meant a place on the bench for Traore - and Kilman, plus bringing in Nelson and Rayan in wing back positions in short order. It takes a brave but knowledgable boss to put faith in his young players, particularly against a team with as much experience in its ranks as Palace.

I thought the red card was appropriate but absolutely accept there was no intention on the part of Milivojevic to hurt Joao. Zaha was his usual childish self, picking on our youngest newest player, who at least showed he wouldn't be intimidated by him. For such a talented player he certainly can be an ars=hole so often.

So... and excellent night's entertainment which I'm sure gives us all confidence as we head to Leicester next Sunday

31/10/2020 15:36
Indeed Ivy, regardless of the red card debate happy days smileys with beer

With the Hesgoals Cheshire, best to click the grey long button at the bottom when lagging occurs rather than f5. I've noticed the second half always seems to be worse with interruptions than the first half but last night probably only around 3 requirements to click the grey button which is relatively decent. When I click on f5 a scantily clad slag appears on a screen asking for debit card details from a site called jasmin meaning it takes longer to return to the game. (Sm124) I suspect lockdown will be announced later so not sure what that will do to the fixture list

Cheshire wolf
01/11/2020 16:33
Yes I found that button a while ago Angry thanks. I also find that when enlarging the picture it always opens another too, but in fairness it was a good stream on Friday night. To be honest I didn't even know that F5 would refresh the page!!!
