Wolves took on Cambridge United in the latest round of the English Football League Cup ate Molineux last evening.

On the face of it a straightforward march into the next round was on the cards considering United's lowly place at the very bottom of Division Two, and the fact that Wolves are unbeaten so far this season. However it proved to be anything but straightforward, and in fact a typical match between two teams with polar opposite fortunes.

For Wolves Manager Walter Zenga opted to make several changes from the team which was so successful away to Birmingham at the weekend. Captain Danny Batth and Matt Doherty were both rested in defence with Iorfa and Hause teaming up. The surprise was to see George Saville playing at left back - whilst new loan signing Cameron Borthwick-Jackson was sat on the bench - and Helda Costa, who is described by Wolves' Official site as a midfielder playing alone up front, supported by Texeira, and with James Henry and Jed Wallace on the wings. Prince Oniangue also made his full debut alongside Jack Price in midfield.

Costa soon made the gamble pay off by grabbing Wolves first goal following some good work by Wallace, followed by a chance taken by Jed Wallace for his first goal for the club, which he will claim even though it seemingly went in off a defender.

Typically in such clashes Wolves couldn't hold on to the lead for very long and an apparent mix-up between the two central defender allowed United to slot in, which was probably well deserved as they had already brought a superb save out on Andy Lonergan in goal.

Wolves were then awarded a penalty after Oniangue was upended in the area, howver once again they could not score from the spot as James Henry brought out a good save from the United goallie. Ths must have been extremely distressing for Henry, who surely must be playing to secure his midfield/winger place in the vision Zenga has for Wolves as they progress, and seemed to reflect in his approach to the rest of the match, making rushed decisions, and taking shots when perhaps the pass might have made more sense.

The second half seemed to be 45 minutes of cancelling each other out rather than the presumed dominance by Wolves, who in the end were perhaps fortunate not to concede again.

However, after six games of the new season, Wolves remain unbeaten!!
