Match Thread: V Charlton (A)

1949 Programme

By Badge32
December 28 2015

Wolves will be looking to win two on the bounce for the first time since beating Fulham and Huddersfiled back in late September and early October. Both those games ended 3-0 and gave us fans renewed hope for the season. Since then we have struggled to win a game never mind getting a run going.

Wolves have a good record against Charlton and have lost just once in the last nine meetings however our last two visits to the Valley had yeilded just one point.

The Head To Head

Overall Games:

Games Played: 84

Games won: 43

Games drawn: 20

Games lost: 21

Away League Games:

Games Played: 36

Games won: 14

Games drawn:7

Games lost: 15

Match Facts:

Wolves biggest win was 4-0 back in 1938. A year earlier Charlton recorded the same scoreline and also won 5-1 in 1947.

The 5-1 along with a 3-3 draw in 1983 are the highest scoring games between the sides on Charltons Ground.

There has only been one 0-0 draw between the sides in the league at The Valley. 12,262 saw this happen on the 28th December 1996.

The Addicks have won one of the past nine league contests with Wolves (D3 L5).

Wolves have gone seven league visits to Charlton without keeping a clean sheet, last shutting them out in December 1996.

Charlton have won just one of their past nine games at the Valley in the Championship (D4 L4).

Wolves' 4-1 defeat by Sheffield Wednesday in their last away game was their heaviest away defeat in the league since losing 4-0 to Brentford last November.

Boring 1st half, only 1 shot on target in the whole half which went to us.

Referee changed at start of 2nd half. Delayed kick off.

Afternoon all. I had visitors so couldn't join before now. Same starting 11 as Saturday, but interesting to see Siggy on the bench instead of Holt.

Referee was apparently injured during first half & has been replaced by 4th official.

Like Angry I didn't know we were playing today either ! Oh well, I'll do 2nd half thread.

Graham shot wide from corner of penalty area.

Ian.PershoreWolf
28/12/2015 16:20
Corner to Wolves comes to nothing who are straight at it 2nd half.

Free kick from Graham wasted whose cross is too close to the keeper.

Ian.PershoreWolf
28/12/2015 16:21
Henry shot miles wide, rushed it when he had more time.

Ian.PershoreWolf
28/12/2015 16:22
Get in Graham, crossed from Afobe. 1-0 7th min 2nd half

Ian.PershoreWolf
28/12/2015 16:24
Nearly 2 straight from kick off, Afobe shot pushed aside for a corner. Good save.

Cheshire wolf
28/12/2015 16:25
Just seen it on Sky - really good work by Afobe, goalie fumbled it & Graham cleaned up.
Afobe has brought out another good save. Coady hurt in a bad challenge.
Positive start to 2nd half by Wolves

Home fans becoming frustrated which will hopefully assist our lads. We sound to be playing much better than our dreadful display on Saturday.
Corner after good work from Coady & Edwards

Ian.PershoreWolf
28/12/2015 16:37
20 mins gone 2nd half. Wolves looking the more dangerous and deserve the lead. Charlton certainly not out of it yet tho.

Silly corner conceded by Wolves, McDonald heads behind for another corner which Ikeme catches.

Ian.PershoreWolf
28/12/2015 16:40
Wolves wobbling a bit here last 3 minutes but nearly catch Charlton on the break.

Ian.PershoreWolf
28/12/2015 16:40
20 mins to go, Byrne coming on for ineffectual Henry.

Cheshire wolf
28/12/2015 16:41
Nathan Byrne on in place of Henry again

Ian.PershoreWolf
28/12/2015 16:43
Simple save for Ikeme,no power in the shot but was on target.
Graham shot blocked.

Cheshire wolf
28/12/2015 16:46
Coady getting praised for his work rate today.

Ian.PershoreWolf
28/12/2015 16:47
Another on target shot from Charlton but was too easy for Ikeme.

Ian.PershoreWolf
28/12/2015 16:49
Foul on Batth earns a yellow card, some good work from Byrne there. MsDonald free kick..never a threat.

Cheshire wolf
28/12/2015 16:51
Will be interesting to see if KJ gives Siggy a run out

Ian.PershoreWolf
28/12/2015 16:52
Byrne shot blocked, then a header cleared. Cross comes in tipped over for a corner. Good pressure from Wolves.

2-0 Batth

Cheshire wolf
28/12/2015 16:54
Very positive attacking by Wolves leads to a corner. 2 - o Batth from the corner

Ian.PershoreWolf
28/12/2015 16:54
7 mins to go. Looks like the 2nd was an own goal

Cheshire wolf
28/12/2015 16:54
It's been credited to their defender Lennon by Sky

Ivybridge Wolf
28/12/2015 16:55
Own goal.

Lovely finish!

Thanks for the reporting everyone. Only got a small amount of internet left on my phone - BT struggling to restore lines here because of floods, so I'd better wish you all a Happy New Year now in case I get cut off! x

Two wins on the spin and two clean sheets, Brighton not scoring so a goalless would be just fine

I hope so Cedric! I'll be having a near 'dry' New Year's Eve to be there! So that's my committment to them, what I need is little back in return! Not much to ask of our collection of world beaters is it?! (Sm8)thumbs down

A dry new year in Brighton, not sure how you will manage that, rarely managed to leave there sober.

Ivybridge Wolf

Sorry Cedric, misread. Goalless one end of the pitch is acceptable but preferably not the other!(Sm2)

And definitely not dry post match. Pre match, I'm the 'designated driver'.
