Just Who Is Mick McCarthy's Best Signing? YOU Decide

By Tom Bason

There we have it. The 10 players I've nominated as Mick McCarthy's best signings.

I’d like to say a few words about those who missed out being on the list. Andy Keogh’s goal record isn’t the best, but he’s scored one or two important strikes. A brace away at Derby all but assured us of promotion, and he followed this up with the winning goal at Wigan to claim Wolves first Premier League away victory. Neill Collins signed for just £150,000. Not the most technically gifted of players, and he had an unhappy knack of giving away penalties but he always gave his all, and the winning goal at Doncaster in December 2008 probably meant he was value for money. One of the most talented players we’ve seen at Molineux is Jay Bothroyd. Few who were there will forget his winner at Elland Road, and of course the only goal in beating West Brom in March 2007.  David Jones would surely have made the list had been a regular over the last two seasons. Full of hard work with a sweet left foot, he should be a very important player over the next 12 months. And finally, a loan signing. Michael Mancienne first impressed as a centre-back in the Championship before developing into a Premiership quality defensive midfielder.

On reflection, I take a different slant. I think it more important to buy with the intention to get a good blend. Consequently 'who is the best signing' does have an answer but isn't the factor which decides has the 'team' and 'squad' been improved with this aquisition?

If asked that question - two stand out at the moment, Doyle & Milijas.

I ted to agree with ernesto hunt on the Dotle / Milijas combo but I wold liek to know why MM didn't play Milijas at the end of the season - didn't even get on the pitch in many games...

How many of the squad didn't MM sign?

Cus it seems to me he has built a squad good enough to stay in the Prem (OK, a couple of near misses, but we are still there1)

It definitley ain't about one player anymore, and now we have got 'The Best Run Club in the World ' Cup it's gone beyond the individual!

I nominate the current squad for this singular honour.
