After what I consider to be a fantastic performance and a great point away at Everton last weekend, I am still 100% sure that we should have won the game due to the fact that there was a foul on Kevin Doyle in the build up to the Everton equaliser........

I am still impressed with the way the team has come on this season, and personally I think that our points total doesn't show the true story of how we have played this season. What really has got my (and I assume many other Wolves fans) back up is the fact that there seems to be a worryingly high amount of inept referees in the Premiership.

I have already mentioned the Everton incident, but another one that sticks out in my mind is the blatant handball we had go against us in the Portsmouth match. How the hell both the linesman AND the referee missed the fact that a Portsmouth player handled inside the penalty area is beyond me. My late grandmother, who had glaucoma, would have seen that and given the penalty straight away. Then there was the penalty we "gave away" against Sunderland, yes Castillo came in from behind BUT he clearly got the ball and a penalty shouldn't have been given. I am not saying it would have changed the outcome of the game, but it certainly didn't help. Another incident (yet not such an issue) was the fact that Andy Keogh got booked for "diving" against Wigan, despite there being clear contact in the area from the Wigan defender.

It is not often I agree with Sir Alex Ferguson, in fact I think the guy just likes to stir up as much trouble as possible BUT he was spot on when he said that some referees are not fit enough to officiate in the top flight. In my opinion some money needs to be invested by the FA in new referees OR technology that helps them when they can't make a simple decision. Yes I know it might affect the way the game is run, but when teams continually have things go against them time after time, surely something needs to be done? Right? I mean what do we have to do to actually win a penalty this season?

I guess I am lucky that I am not a Premiership manager, otherwise there could be a fine coming my way!

There tends to be a feeling that good decisions / bad decisions even themselves out over the course of a season. I suspect that the big 4 end up with it more even than some of us.

I don't think they set out to be biased but they are fallible to pressure - I reckon the pressure on them is intensified at places like Old Trafford & Anfield, and they are more likely to give in or make mistakes favouring the home team.

I was brassed off about the blatant penalty for the push on Doyle in the Sunderland game. As most pundits said at the time, anywhere else on the field and it would have been a cast-iron certainty for it be called. That kind of inconsistency is inexcusable.

I think in general the refs have favoured the established clubs over the new commers, ie the foul on Doyle that cost us the game last week, one of many crucial desicisions to go against us this season, but watching the Burnly v Blackburn game last week, I thought Burnly were harshly treated over the 90 mins.
So prehaps its just bias against the new comers

if you think that was bad have a look at the "non penalty" on doyle today. disgraceful descision.

you can take the boy out of Wolverhampton, but you can't take the Wolverhampton out of the boy.

I agree that the refs seem to favour established clubs and bigger clubs. It seems to go on season after season.

I dont think we would have got the 2nd half penalty today had it not been for the earlier decision or maybe if it was still 0-0. The ref took an eternity before awarding the penalty.

What gets me more than anything is that there are very rarely any sanctions or punishments against blatently bad decisions. A lot of decisions are borderline and difficult to spot, like the Keogh booking at Wigan - but on blatently terrible decisions like missing the Pompey deliberate handball or the failure to send Howard off at Everton call for sanctions. Atwell in particular should consider himself very very lucky to still be referreeing at Premiership level after one of the worst errors of all time.

Stourport both Pens today wree Pens. The refs do favour the Big 4 or the established Prem teams against the new boys

The problem is we can't rely on penaltys. If we were good enough we would be scoring from open play. We are lacking the killer instinct, and need somone to take a bit more responsibilty and shoot whenever possible, especially yesterday when the sun was in Friedel's eyes. Yes the referees probably do favour the established prem teams, but we can't rely on penaltys to score goals. So far this season we have only scored 9 goals in the league and and only have come 3 from open play.

Fair comment Wilko, can't really disagree except that the penalties denied us v Sunderland, Pompey and Villa were all 100% penalties (Plus the well dodgy pen awarded against us at Sunderland)

We need to give it a better go in front of goal but these incident thus far have denied us a potential 5 precious points.

im more worried about the manner doyles penalty was denied.

a few seasons ago, gerrard got a penalty vs sheff U. He stayed on his feet and tried to shoot. There was contact, and it was stonewall.

Because Gerrard stayed on his feet, the referee received horrendous abuse (albeit mainly from warnock)

we need to sort it out. Until players know they can stay on their feet and still win penalties, we will continue to see players diving.

on the topic i agree with Risca. more pressure on the ref's in the big clubs arenas.
