WOLVES Striker Carl Cort turned down the chance to move south and link up forces with his brother Leon today in favour of furthering his career with Wolves. Jez Moxey had agreed a £1.25M fee with Crystal Palace for the striker.

The 28 year old striker has been heavily linked with a move to Crystal Palace and the move looked very much on this morning when it was revealed that Wolves Chief Executive Jez Moxey had agreed a £1.25M deal with Palace boss Simon Jordan.

However Carl Cort today turned down the move, citing new boss Mick McCarthy as one of his reasons.

Cort told the clubs official website "The last couple of weeks under the new manager have gone well for me and I'm looking forward to starting the new season,"

  "Mick McCarthy has got the lads buzzing and we are all working hard to be ready for the opening match against Plymouth. I was tempted by a move back near my friends and family in London but I'm enjoying life at Wolves at the moment."

The 28 year old striker signed for £2M in January 2004 from Newcastle United. He has one year left on his contract but admits he's looking to extend his stay past the summer of 2007. Cort added "I've got 12 months left on my contract and hope to talk to the club about extending that in the near future. In the meantime I just want to get my head down and do the best I can for the club."
