Team Summary:
With the opening Friday practice for the 2021 Belgian Grand Prix such was
the wet weather prior to the start of the session and with the sun starting
to return there was no rush for the drivers to come out. The Ferrari's would
be first out both on the intermediate tyre. They would be followed by
various drivers including both Alpines, Bottas, Vettel, and Ricciardo.
Drivers would pit after single installation laps with only four drivers who
had yet to come out including both Williams cars. But both would eventually
complete their install laps as Norris set a 1m:50.191 using the medium tyre.
More drivers had pitted returning on dry tyres using both hard and medium.
More drivers would set times with Vettel fastest with a 1m:49.324 followed
by Gasly and Norris. But Hamilton would move in to third using the hard
followed by Sainz, Ricciardo and Alonso. But Ocon was now quickest with a
1m:48.087 using the medium. He would improve with a 1m:47.250 now followed
by Leclerc and Bottas both on the hard. But as the times came down Gasly was
now second followed by Ricciardo, Perez, Sainz, Stroll, Vettel, Leclerc,
Bottas and Alonso tenth. The Williams drivers were currently 12th and 15th.
This would become 13th and 16th as both cars pitted. Verstappen was now
fastest with a 1m:46.879 now ahead of Sainz and Ocon. Perez would move up to
second like Verstappen using the hard tyre.
Verstappen would set a 1m:46.423 to remain fastest with an improved time. A
Williams using the soft tyre would move into second but this would become
fourth as other soft tyre runs were put in. Ricciardo was now second
followed by Stroll and Latifi. But Vettel would move in to second. After
their sft tyre runs the Williams drivers were currently 5th and 7th. This
would become 8th and 10th as others put in soft tyre times. Bottas was now
quickest with a 1m:45.199 followed by Verstappen and Sainz. The Williams
pair would drop to 13th and 14th as Gasly moved into third followed by
Sainz, Perez, Vettel, Norris, Ocon, Alonso and Stroll tenth. This would now
see the Williams pair 13th and 15th.
With only a few minutes remaining the order was Bottas, Verstappen, Gasly,
Leclerc, Sainz, Perez, Vettel, Norris, Ocon and Alonso tenth. The Williams
pair were now 14th and 16th. Rain would start to fall in the pit lane as the
session drew to a close.
George Russell:
George would follow Nicholas out also on intermediates. After a single lap
George would pit returning on the medium tyre. George would set a slow
1m:55.287 but would improve with a 1m:50.152 to be 14th. George would have a
close coming together with Stroll. A 1m:48.980 would see George remain in
14th but he would pit dropping to 17th. He would also return for a soft tyre
run with just over twenty minutes remaining. A 1m:47.982 would see George
13th. But a 1m:46.772 would see George fourth. But as quicker times were set
he would drop to be 13th. He would return for a further run on the medium
tyre. On this run he would drop to 14th. He would pit after a six lap run.
Nicholas Latifi:
Nicholas would be first out for Williams running on the intermediate tyre.
He would pit returning on the hard tyre. He would set a 1m:50.541 to
currently be 14th. This would become 12th as he would set a 1m:48.462. He
would drop to 13th behind Hamilton. He would return this time using the soft
tyre currently 15th. A 1m:47.768 would see him improve to be 10th. His next
lap would see a 1m:47.101 to be second behind Verstappen. He would pit after
a five lap run. He would return for another run on the soft tyre currently
13th. As he completed this run he would drop to 16th pitting after a nine
lap run. |
