K.O.17:30 on Sunday 13 April - European Challenge Cup quarter final Apologies for the cheesy title. Two weeks ago, Bath beat Gloucester 42 – 26 in the Gallagher Premiership at the Rec. Now we find ourselves with the exact same fixture but this time in a different competition, the European Challenge Cup quarter finals. You might think that that having beaten the same team only two weeks ago convincingly the result would surely be the same and the chatter on the East stand is that the “treble is on”. However, I respectfully beg to differ. I think the result of this game is very much in the balance.
The previous Rec encounter was virtually all square at half time before the ‘Bath bomb’ exploded in the second half. If the same teams took to the pitch, then Bath would probably do a repeat job and win. Thing is though neither team will be the same but for very different reasons. Firstly, I’m pretty convinced that Johann Christoffel van Graan has only one goal for this season following our final defeat at Twickenham last year. That goal is to win the Gallagher Premiership title. On that basis I think he will protect our key ‘star’ players and reserve them for games that are vital to that process. This basically means the team which beat Section Paloise, (Pau) 24-49 in the Pyrénées on Friday should mainly be the one that feature next week at the Rec with a few possible tweaks.
The second reason for my ‘result uncertainty’ revolves around the Gloucester team, who Bath fans sometimes ridicule unfairly. Gloucester, Bristol and Bath rugby clubs are currently part of a culture of high scoring, entertaining and attacking rugby in the West Country. (We hope Exeter will join in at some point). Bristol have soundly thrashed many good Premiership sides this season yet they themselves were ‘thumped’ by Gloucester 53-28 at Kingsholm last week. This Gloucester side have now gone away to Montpellier and beaten them away 17-24 in the South of France. Looking on I actually think this Gloucester are a distinctly different side to the one we played two weeks ago. Interestingly it’s youth and developing talent that holds the key to this improvement.
Let me suggest where the improvements have happened. Firstly, at lock Freddie Thomas (23) and Cam Jordan (25) are two locks who possess both energy and aggression. Thomas now dominates line outs and Jordan is a very powerful ball carrier as evidenced by his rampaging try against Montpellier. Molony and Roux or Richards are going to have their work cut out countering that threat. The Gloucester front row is packed with experienced props over 30 yet it’s the THP Afolabi Fasogbon at 20 yrs. who is attracting attention in the same was as our Archie Griffin (23) did a year ago. Recent performances are suggesting he may tour with England in the summer. Back row; most club sides would see Sam Underhill’s red card as a problem, Ludlow, Clement and Ackermann are no mugs but such is our strength in depth we can pick an array of loose forwards and still match or beat our opposition. Take your pick. So basically, Gloucester should win their fair share of the ball up front, a prerequisite for success.
It’s now that selection gets interesting, I doubt Tomos Williams will play but Caolan Englefield at 9 is much improved and he has a massively huge boot and is easily capable of creating field position. He also now links smoothly with his flyhalf. I think Tom Carr-Smith might well start for Bath so that’s an interesting matchup in itself. For me though the key to this whole tie might lie in who gets the upper hand at 10. Charlie Atkinson should start at 10 to give the enigmatic Santi Carreras the full back spot where George Skivington believes he excels. Our head coach, JvG has a real dilemma at fly half on his hands now as to whether he goes with Orlando Bailey, an England contemporary of Charlie Atkinson the Gloucester 10, or continues with the emerging talent that is Ciaran Donoghue. The choice might indicate Johann’s preference but I suspect he will go the Bailey route allowing Donoghue to bank his recent outstanding performances. An alternative to that would be to play both with one at full back and one at flyhalf.
Santi Carreras’ ability to run back ball is a complete game changer, so whoever plays 10 could well be embarrassed if they end up kicking to him. His ability to exploit any broken play is a delight to watch. We are currently deliberately familiarising Santi with the Rec, where we expect him to attack from deep for us next year as opposed to against us. For now, however he is a serious threat to Bath rugby club in this matchup. There are other close match ups in the centres where Seb Atkinson has excelled in recent games and Chris Harris, (currently achieving veteran status at 31) is possibly playing some of his best rugby. I’ve no doubt Will Butt and Max are more than a match for them though. Expect the huge fan favourite that is Will Muir to put in another 110% performance.
Perhaps I have been wrong in assuming our team selection and injuries and tweaks might well prove these guesses erroneous: we’ll have to see. What we cannot assume though is the result of this fixture. I think this is a very close game to call with the home side going through far from certain and it could easily be decided by a single score. Either way it should be the excellent rugby spectacle we have come to expect in the West Country.
Final point, we could easily see this fixture establish a sort of ‘Groundhog day’ status as there is every chance we meet Gloucester in the Premiership semi-finals, that is of course if both clubs complete their run ins as planned.
Perhaps but JvG let the base of the team that got us to the Prem Cup follow through even to the final, would he not do similar with this Cup? I can see tweaks but first string, I'm not sure.
Tyler Offiah
Opinion is based on assumptions, whereas fact is based on observation or research.
That was the Prem Cup though, where a second team is the spirit of the competition. The rest weeks are out of the way. I'm expecting the usual rotation in the back row and maybe at tight head, but Ewels back, TdG back, Spenny/Finn at half backs.
Charlieboa1 I would rest beno and dunny personally as played in prem cup and started last 3 games.
Maybe rotate the centres again and give max a rest.
Tempted to not take chances with muir- lots of games in quick succession after a long lay off.
Also tempted to give spencer a week off and bring finn back. Think they will llay him but he is so key for our prem chances.
Maybe something like:
Tdg Joe butt redpath rmc finn tcs fvw annett griffin roux ewels reid pepper alfie
Nench: kepu tdt stuart richards hill coetzee schreuder bailey
Still feels string enough to give glos a tough day and hopefully get the win.
My thinking is similar to this. I’d give Richards a start though and if Donoghue got another run out and let Finn put his feet up for another week I wouldn’t have any complaints. Maybe Spencer on the bench to back up TCS

Tend to agree SW, this season is all about the Premiership, the Challenge Cup is little more than window dressing.
Expect Glos to go full bore, but Bath to be almost the same as Pau game with obviously no Sam and maybe bring back Charlie Ewels. Don't see any need to bring back Finn or TDT.
Good report......I think we are going to have to keep going strong..
Ironically I don't look and the rotation as giving players a rest but as much (more) to ensure that everyone (more people) are match fit. So basically the other way round....if you know what I mean!
This competition has added to our diary significantly:
If you take out the ECC fixtures in blue there is clearly no real need to rotate, (assuming we progress of course)
The thing I'm conscious off is that this season I think is really important for Finn Russell. For an outstanding talent that he is he has only won the PRO12 title in 2015 with Glasgow, nothing internationally, nothing in France and he won't even have a Prem Cup medal as he didn't play.
I'd love him to get the Prem this season, the rotation issue is a really difficult decision for JvG, I don't envy him.

I'd go along with most of that except maybe leaving resting Beno and Dunny until the following week. We need lineout possession and the upper hand they give us in the scrum and loose. Kepu had a bit of a lineout 'mare last weekend.

Based on JvG's previous selections, ie regular rotations, going strong at home and resting players for some away fixtures, I think/predict he will go:
CC QF Home to Glos Strong, regular rotation
Away to Exeter Regular rotation + rest Finn & Stuart
Home to Newcastle Full strength
CC SF Away to Edinburgh Max strength
Away to Bristol Rest key players, inc Finn & Stuart
Home to Leicester Full strength
CC Final Max strength
Away to Sarries Rest key players, inc Finn & Stuart
Prem SF Full strength
Prem Final Max strength
That might mean sacrificing the Bristol and Sarries games but still gives us a home Prem semi and the max chance of winning two trophies. Quite honestly though the Prem Cup guys' form is so good they could do the job anyway.
What I mean by Full to max strength is minimal rotation: He knows his best 15/23, so it's the same 23 bar a forced change or two and shuffling starters/finishers.
I really don't want to see Finn playing at Exeter or Ojomoh or Muir for that matter. The pitch is horrendous and we came unstuck there with injuries last season. With that in mind I would play all 3 against Gloucester in the CC.

Good point, unless they've been watering it non-stop it'll be rock hard. Shame though as I'm going.

Good point. I had the Exeter and Newcastle games the other way around in my head but this makes sense. Could be a game to rest Beno and Alfie who also have had significant knee injuries in the past
Anyone know how Underhill's hearing went yesterday? Can't find any info anywhere. I'd expect 6 weeks cut to 3 (good behaviour) cut to 2 (tackle school). But hard to foretell these things....
Also, Sam has one of the best tackle techniques around, so maybe it would be worthwhile him giving the training at the tackle school rather than him receiving it.
I want us to get to the ECC Final because I would be able to get there, and I can't go to the Premiership Final (which I am assuming we are going to be in, and we are going to win, primarily on the basis that I can't be there, so it's bound to happen).
So I'd like to see:
Obano, Dunn, TdT, Ewels, Roux, Barbeary, Hill, Underhill, Spencer, Russell, Redpath, Ojomoh, Coka, Muir, TdG if that's ok.

That sounds about right, and to be honest keeping him fresh for the business end of the season isn't the worst outcome, Pepper, Bayliss, and Reid can fill in admirably.
Given his reputation for obliterating players with his tackle technique, it's pretty impressive that over the course of 170+ professional appearances he's only received 3 yellows (some of which may be for other offences) and 1 red. Pretty sure the Leicester centres have eclipsed that this season alone.
Underhill got 3 weeks. 2 weeks after tackle school.
Admitted to foul play but didn’t think it met Red Card threshold but hearing upheld Red Card, 6 weeks with 50% mitigation.
Underhill’s ban is as expected really. Imagine being the person who has to give Underhill his tackling lesson though. You’d feel like the Dog and Duck’s karaoke champion giving Adele a singing lesson.

Still an awful lot lot of tickets left. Feels like the EPCR have messed up their one chance of having a Challenge Cup game with a good atmosphere by putting it on at 17.30 on Sunday
I managed to mess up buying my tickets for Sunday......self declared technophobe but I 'phoned up the Ticket Office this morning and the lady was extremely helpful and got me all sorted in double quick time .

And given that all three other games are on Saturday not sure why ours had to be at 5.30. Do we end up being penalised because we're a Club without any restrictions on when we can hold games?

It makes sense for our game to be Sunday evening. I assume there’s a set number of slots for games and the away teams with the most travel all play Saturday and ours is comfortably the most local game so much easier for fans to make a Sunday evening than the other Euro fixtures

Most likely because Toulon v Toulouse in the senior cup is on at 3pm.

That’s exactly what happens. Misses Glos (Euro) and Ex Away. Back for Newcastle Home.
Comments from JVG in the week suggest No Big Joe but everyone else came out of that game fine.
From now on I think one of Spencer or Russell will play in every game apart from maybe Falcons game. Can rest them on and off but keep the team ticking.
If I were to guess the team for this week
1. TDT
2. Annett
3. Stuart
4. Ewels
5. Roux
6. Hill
7. Pepper
8. Barbeary
9. TCS
10. Russell
11. Mcconochie
12. Butt
13. Cam
14. Emens
15. TDG

Premier Sports is available for £15.99 per month through Amazon but you have to have Prime first at £8.99 per month. I think that you can get a trial month of Prime for free if you don’t already subscribe.
One month will cover you for Sundays match and the semi final IF……Bath get through AND they televise.
If we get to the final then another £15.99 and ££8.99…………
Pretty handy team on paper, although I do wonder whether JvG may opt to have the real heavy artillery come off the bench instead of starting, in a knock out match I'd probably feel most comfortable seeing the likes of TdT, Dunn, Hill, etc entering the field at the 50 minute mark to really turn the screw.
Also for me I'd like to see Hennessey get another run out in place of Emens, think it's important to keep giving him gametime so that his head doesn't get turned by offers from over the border.

The whole situation should be a warning to young Welsh qualified players that there's no point getting lured over the border by the prospect of international recognition if you end up at a basket case of a club.

I tried to watch it via EPCR on my TV & it took ages to connect & eventually I only got the French commentary, no sound. It was the same on my iPad. Eventually I was able to get the second half with very fuzzy pictures on my PC. The message is that you may be fortunate like BathMatt which is fine if you are fluent in French or you may suffer my experience!
Just bought 3 x Terrace tickets for Sunday - good value @ £40 each. At checkout, it asks if i'd like to make a donation to Bath Rugby Foundation ..... which I would have ... if it weren't for the fact that they already added a £6 'booking fee'.
I appreciate that establishing an e-ticketing system has costs associated with it - but it always comes across as a bit of an irritating rip-off.
If you're reading, Bath Rugby - sack off the spurious 'booking fee', and maximise the donations to Bath Rugby Foundation.

shipwrecked Booking fee is £2.00 per ticket is that actually onerous?
It's 5% on the £40 ticket, so yes, it is onerous and excessive, especially in an age of eticketing.
It should be £2 per transaction, not per ticket, if it has to be levied at all.
Booking fees for music gigs are much higher though typically a £1.50 processing fee, £2.50 delivery and transaction fee, £5.62 booking fee and a £1.75 venue levy.
Do Bath take a % of that booking fee or is that what they are charged?

Not many complaints on the Bath lineup. Could possibly have had Pepper over Staddon, but good to reward his form from the PRC. Also excited to see Donoghue get a proper run out at 15.
Gloucester's selection looks like it's geared towards trying to handle our bomb squad, but their starting 15 looks comparatively weaker, so hopefully we can put in a good first half performance and leave them with too much to do by the time their big guns come on.
Gloucs away at Sarries next week (6 days after) who are 2 points and 2 places below them in the Prem so thats a massive game in relation to the Prem play offs. As such I can understand them rotating some important players.
Stronger than I expected and would have gone personally.
In terms of a prem final 23 only really stuart not in there who is fit and available? Arguably pepper as well. Can't think of anyone else so jvg pretty much as strong as possible?
Ewels inj, underhill banned, ollie inj, big Joe inj.
6 day turnaround for exeter- really hope beno and dunny get a rest.
Great to able to bring in the likes of stuart, richards, hopefully ewels, pepper, hopefully big Joe fresh for that game.
Really enjoying the strategy of just freshening it up each week.
Donohue getting a start at 15 while he is riding the crest of a wave prob a good shout!

Earlier in the season there was a code for a free month which was 'FREEURC', you just had to register for a month's package. If it still works then make sure you cancel immediately though as you need to give 30 day's notice to not pay the following month.
I’m over simplying as sport doesn’t work this way but on paper it looks like we’ve picked a broadly similar quality side that beat Gloucester pretty comfortably recently and they’ve picked a slightly weaker one
Like it. At home, versus them up the road, knock out rugby... let's go for it.
Interesting that Pepper is on the front of the programme- but not in the XXIII. Wonder if he picked up a niggle but fortunately we've got silly depth at 7 and will be interesting to see Staddon in a first XV pack. Shame no Ewels- hope his ribs aren't too bad. Hugely looking forward to seeing Donoghue at 15. His confidence must be high, and we saw how good his pace and feet were last week in the congested channels. Look forward to seeing on the ball in space on kick return and out wide.
I can see a big rotation down at Exeter, with Ewan Richards' Blue Black & White Army given another go on the concrete sand trap.
Charlieboa1 Really enjoying the strategy of just freshening it up each week
One of the many benefits of having a clear style, identity, gameplan that all players across the Club train to. Plus, players coming into a confident, winning environment. It’s such a cumulative set of benefits.
Yep absolutely. Prem Cup team plays in exactly the same way as the 1st XV.
Also - and we say it every week - but the medical team are a big part of that, too. Being able to freshen up by choice, rather than necessity, is such a luxury. And it compounds- as keeping players fresh keeps them fit. And so on.
It's also notably in contrast to Mike Ford's time in charge. The Prem Cup and academy team must see the likes of Donaghue and Staddon getting their shot in a European QF and get very excited by the possibilities...
hasta It's also notably in contrast to Mike Ford's time in charge..
Why do you say that? It was somewhat fleeting but we did build up an impressive identity at the time. I suppose it only centred on a narrow group of players though.
Bookies odds have us big favourites at 1/5 on, Gloucester almost 7/1...

Have to say I didn't expected us to go so strong and Hasta had it right. As mentioned in the preview a lot of this was down to team selection but JvG has cleverly given a nod to our up and coming stars with his selection of Donoghue and Staddon. Neither will let us down through lack of effort, I'm pretty confident of that.

Worried about this afternoon.
Think there might be just a touch of complacency, an eye on avoiding injuries, and focusing on a different competition...
Against Glos, you only have to take your eye off the ball for 10 minutes and you'll have lost the match.
In JvG we trust, to prepare the boys mentally to avoid that
It just feels like a banana skin that can be seen a mile off, but get slips on anyway for comedic value.
Every game from now on is a banana skin. Not sure what more we can do with fitness, form, JvG’s attitude of ‘start every Monday on zero’ and ‘not too not too low’, JvG’s selection policy, etc.
Yes we might lose at some point, but I think it’ll take a bloody good performance from an opposing team to cause it. And fair enough if so.

Against Glos, you only have to take your eye off the ball for 10 minutes and you'll have lost the match.
In JvG we trust, to prepare the boys mentally to avoid that
It just feels like a banana skin that can be seen a mile off, but get slips on anyway for comedic value.
Must admit I am more nervous than usual.
Doesn’t help starting last thing on a Sunday either
Ref getting more than a bit annoyed with the Glaws captain - in the ref's face for that last try review and only went away when threatened with a yellow card!
I'm increasingly concerned that it will be a while until we play a side who knows how to defend...Sale in the play-offs maybe?
There were periods in that game when their defence seemed impregnable but we were remorseless & eventually something had to give. I think any team will be hard pressed to defend that attacking power.
A.M 180 Wonder what our aggregate score against Glos is this year? (158-83) apparently

I think it’s because sides like Gloucester and Bristol want to attack from everywhere, which is entertaining but if you get that transition wrong or make an error it’s more difficult to get your defensive shape back.
6.5/10 performance. Sloppy at times. Sublime at others. Kicking from hand from Ben and Finn far from usual standards. And we still thrashed Glaws. These are good times. Apparently that was the 7th successive game where we have scored more than 40 points.
Donoghue doesn't look out of place at 15 apart from the mix up for the Singleton try that is. Looks sounder than Emens in defence and put in some decent attacking kicks. I'd hate to try and tackle Alfie Barbeary you know exactly what he is going to do but he is pretty unstoppable.

He was tackled just before he hit the post but grounded the ball as he went down. A rugby incident because it was close to the upright but a fair tackle and Jaco’s momentum would always get to the try line, pity it was so close to the upright!
I just hope Jaco only got a very severe dead leg. No twisting kind of motion (I think?), so shouldn’t be ligament damage.
Thought Butt had a good game, strong both sides of the ball. As has been said, Finn’s and Ben’s radar was well off on more than one occasion (why was the Spencer kick that went dead not a scrum back? Is that only when kick is from your own half?).
Donoghue’s attacking judgement also off at one stage when he ran down the darkest of dark alleys… but he needs licence to do that and learn at the moment.
CoochieCoo He was tackled just before he hit the post but grounded the ball as he went down. A rugby incident because it was close to the upright but a fair tackle and Jaco’s momentum would always get to the try line, pity it was so close to the upright!
He was sitting on the bench with what looked like ice strapped under his knee. Can I take comfort from the fact that JvG didn't seem to mention it in the post match interview? I also thought I heard the ref say he'd taken over as captain when Spencer went off??
I don't think Jaco was too bad. Dead leg sounds a good guess. He strikes me as the sort of player who seems to often get up after a carry with an ailment. It happened a few minutes before his try- he was staggering following a carry into midfield. At Exeter in the Cup win on the concrete pitch, he was always taking time to get back up- but then rejoined the line and made another 10m post contact! Hope he's ok- our back row stocks are awesome, but we can't afford to lose too many ball carriers.
An odd but, ultimately, brilliant performance. 61 points and a sense of "we weren't that great" is so strange. Spencer had a bit of a shocker. We couldn't get set piece dominance. Our defence was ropy on the edge... yet we hammered them. Roux yet again everywhere. Butt superb- he's some athlete, almost another back rower. Thought VV, TDT and especially Reid bought huge intensity off the bench.
Read that on Friday we had 3 x XVs training against each other. That is serious depth and cohesion being created. With the likes of Staddon and Donoghue slotting seamlessly into the 1st XV, we've got a chance to be tip top tuned come the season's sharp end. I'd rotate a little but not too much at Exe. We need to keep momentum and secure 1st place. Sending a 3rd XV to SANDy Park and getting turned over wouldn't be fatal but I'd rather we keep the good times rolling with the downside risk being an injury to a cup final starter. I'd rotate out TDT (Stuart back), Roux (Richards), Finn (Landy), and Muir (McCon), but keep the rest together.
Watching the game yesterday I couldn’t help feel like Christian Wade may be a bit of a spent force these days. He had a bit of a shocker with his handling and decision making and while getting gassed by Donoghue who is over a decade younger isn’t that surprising it’s not something that has happened to him often.
Maybe he has a few performances left in him and I’m sure his finishing is still good given the chance but Ben Loader shouldn’t have much issue getting the shirt off him next season based on recent evidence
Agree with drbath that whilst we have amazing backrow stocks jaco plays a v specific role as an impact ball carrier and would be tricky to replace.
I would definitely make a fair few changes for exeter given the 6 day turnaround.
Beno, dunny, malony, spencer, mojo, muir due a rest I think personally. Would be tempted to keep roux and tdg wrapped in cotton wool also as not easily replaced. Then give some big guns a rest against newcastle like tdt and finn.
Hopefully ewels will be back asap.
1 or 2 pts on the road wouldn't be a disaster given where we are but even with rotation we should be looking for a win.
Something like this ought to be good enough to at least compete:
Donohue big Joe butt cam rmc finn TCS fvw annett stuart richards ewels underhill pepper alfie
Bench: kepu tdt griffin hill reid bayliss schreuder bailey
If we can win the next 2 games - against the bottom 2 clubs - then it's perfectly possible we'll have 1st place wrapped up. That puts JVG in a position where he can play whoever he wants in the final 3 league games, and the odd injury can be dealt with before play-off games start.
I'd be inclined to go fairly hard for 10 points and give ourselves that luxury, rather than risking needing to take points from 3 tricky fixtures against 3 teams that will have everything to play for.
What was noticeable yesterday was the Gloucester replaced their entire front 5 shortly into the second half. They made almost zero impact! Archie Griffin looked at ease and back to his best but I do wonder if we can keep him.

With regard to EPCR it used to work, bu I'm guessing that Premiership TV got a bit miffed that you could get it in the UK and now its blocked. However if you use a VPN and select Switzerland it works. However I have a lot of issues with trying to cast to my TV, not just with this but in general both with and without Airplay, I know Airplay has a problem with VPN.
Bath Supporter Jack I think we need to select a team with all of the points above but also the dreadful nature of the Exeter pitch at the moment.
It looks like a rock solid surface of mud with no grass. Potentially very tricky with a full impact tackle.
From my experience of playing on surfaces like that it is a big problem for anyone with issues for ankle, knee but also shoulder joints
Is it as hard as it looks? Referees have a responsibility to ensure the surface is safe to play on, I wouldn't want to be sliding in at the corner mind!

Ice under the knee would that indicate a hamstring injury?
Any physio’s on here?
Not sure what to make of Skirvington. Initially Glos looked so disjointed and very much a basement team. This year with some quality signings like Tomas Williams their attack has looked seriously good a lot of the time and their defence did seem to have improved
But hearing him after the match was so painful. Worse than Hooper in the dark days. So defeatist and deflating. Saying they were beaten in facets of the game, selection was a failure etc
Surely as a player you want your DoR to stand up for you and say a few positive hopeful things even if there's some honest truths
He could have said something about at 26 - 14 with a pen on Bath line and a player up with a bit more execution it could have been a close thing going in at h-t. Talk about their coast to coast attack causing Bath some problems at times but obviously a lot to review and work on to stay in hunt for a playoff place
But no it was all pretty dismal stuff and if I was a decent player there with just a year on my contract I'd be on the phone to my agent in the morning
I thought that yesterday was a mixed bag, albeit great to get the result. I felt that unusually BS had one of his less effective days. Will Butt, Alfie and Ross Molony stood out, additionally Archie G acquitted himself admirably.
Great atmosphere, however I can’t remember a Glaws match at the Rec with so few red shirts in the crowd.
Does anyone know if Premier Sports do free full match replays after the event? I saw the highlights on their YouTube channel yesterday but it’s always nice to watch a full 80 mins of any Glaws thumping.

I think its a real possibility but I suspect you still need a subscription. If you go to their site and for example look at the Montpellier v Gloucester video it's listed as a 3minute, 10 minute or full game watch.
To confirm someone with a subscription would need to see if it's viewable. I strongly suspect you need to wait several days though.

Which is fair, don’t get owt for nowt and all that. I had a look and it does say the historical stuff needs a sub. I may invest in a month for the Semi and Final, then I can watch the Glaws game later. Full game reruns are often available x days after the event even if the live broadcast was paywalled (thinking of TNT).
