Player Adoption 2013/14

All Annie's

By Dorset Boy
August 13 2013

For a number of years now the posters on Ere & latterly COML have adopted players and coaches from the Bath squad.  Initially the idea was for adopters to provide a short report on their adoptees performances, but with larger squad sizes this happens rarely now. However the August tradition of adopting a player for the season continues.

For those interested in the methodology of the process, the players and coaches are each assigned a random number, and posters on the forum then select a number from the range. The numbers are matched and the appropriate player is adopted.

Tempting though it would be to have Old Bathonian adopt Kyle Eastmond, Bri adopt the Fords, or Bod to have adopted SIM or Gary Gold, the draw is random.

Many posters have taken to incorporating their adopted player into the signature, and some are building up a decent team of past and present players.

So onto the important stuff – who has been adopted by whom for the forthcoming season….

I sometimes wonder what the players think of this concept (if they know about it!). Maybe the club should have a special ‘Meet the Parents’ evening – come Flats, you know it makes sense!

Neither JJ Kilmartin or Joe Buckle are at the club...

They're all listed in the academy still (or were last week....). Nice to know the club website is up to date as ever!

Right, in the light of the hapless official site (come on Flats get it sorted!), and some further digging, it appears that Tom Baldwin, Joe Buckle, JJ Kilmartin, James Tyas, and will Tanner have all left, and Charlie Ewells, Tom Ellis and Tom Woolstencroft have arrived at the academy.

So, Bathboyo, Froome Lurkers, johnnyf and Susanne all need replacement adoptees. I propose that we 'use up' the unadopted first team squad first, so they each get:-

Bathboyo ~~~~ Carl Fearns
Froome Lurkers ~~~~ Antony Watson
johnnyf ~~~~ Kyle Eastmond
Susanne ~~~~ Rob Webber

That leaves the Kane Train and the three new academy boys still needing to be adopted.

Thanks DB! I think some of them know about it - I've certainly explained it to Mearsy and Carl in my last couple of years. Reaction was a bit confused but not too hostile!

I have been struggling with new laptop settings for the past couple of days, so have we been allocated adopptees or what? Can't see anything at all, but still not sure if its this b********************* computer or me!!!

Rather stressed as also installed BT Vision which took some doing! .............................

Kane Train or one of the academy boys, WT?

I thought it was supposed to be random?

otherwise, we really can't leave a senior squad member without an adoptive parent - albeit the only thing I can teach him about scrummaging is not to eat the ball

I think I'll stick to my "Fertiliser" nickname for him though; much more yokel.

Edit: trying to get the new signature to come along for the ride

is not to eat the ball

Having watched Kane demolish a breakfast burrito at Jika Jika as a starter whilst waiting for his breakfast, that may actually be quite good advice!

As a scrum half, I hated the change from "putting the ball in" to "feeding the scrum", it was scary, and potentially very expensive

Marshie if you can afford to do that then you must have been one of the few that upgraded their season ticket to the 1865 club then?

I hope not Marshie - cracking is really pretty specialists; certainly too much for a masseur. Leave it to the chiropractors and osteopaths; even most physios scare me when they start talking about cracking backs
