Saracens and France fullback/stand-off Thomas Castaignede has boosted the club by signing a new four-year contract. The new deal will keep the former Toulouse and Castres man with the Men in Black until 2006. "Things haven’t been easy for me recently with my injury, but the support that I have received from all at the club, particularly Nigel Wray, has been fantastic. This is my home right now, and signing for four years makes me very happy. All of us want the club to be successful, and I want to do my bit." TC told the Saracens official Web site.

On a very busy day for Saracens' PR department, CEO Peter Deakin said of the Castaignede contract extension "Thomas is a cracking guy and a very special rugby player. He is a very spirited and determined individual who is an important member of our squad. His talent is one that inspires his team-mates and keeps the fans on the edge of their seats".

After just 11 apperances averaging just under 18 points per game, Castaignede ruptured an achilles tendon and was out of action for nearly 18 months. He made some return appearances at the end of the season but he hopes that he will be 100% for 2002-03 and beyond and is sure to be an integral and important part of new coach Wayne Shelford's plans.
