The Saracens Supporters Association's first event for 2003/04: "Ready to Rumble" was held at Watford Irish Club on Monday night. Refeees Ashley Rowden and Rhys Davies were in the hot seats and answered a broad range of questions from the 60-strong audience. Both Rhys and Ashley were very forthright in their views and they gave a fascinating insight into the world of the rugby referee.

Questions on the laws, personal experiences and the catch-all question "Why on Earth do you do it?" were among those asked from the floor.

A lot of information on who appoints referees to specific games, how the men in the middle keep control of unruly players and what a top referee can earn per game was shared with the enthusiastic audience.

This very successful event was the first in what the SSA hopes will be many regular ones, the next of which will be the Cerebral Challenge at Bramley Road on Friday 3 October. Guest quizmasters will be Sarries stars Alex Codling and Andy Goode.

Entry is £8 per person, which included a fish and chip supper and to register your team of four, email largefez@yahoo.co.uk
