Salford target McAvoy

Salford Reds boss Steve Simms has said that he would sign Saracens threequarter Nathan McAvoy should he decide to return to rugby league. The National League One leaders' main rivals Leigh Centurions are also understood to be interested in McAvoy who started his career with Salford straight from school.

Simms was quoted on the Manchester Online website as saying: "Nathan is a genuine top-quality player. If he plans coming back into the league game, we will certainly look at recruiting him."

"He is a Salford lad and he would be an ideal acquisition. He has always impressed me and he could certainly do a job for us."

McAvoy has had a frustrating start to his Saracens career making just a handful of appearances for the Men in Black since he joined from the Bradford Bulls earlier this year due to a succession of injuries.
