Gordon Ross has joined the Tykes from Edinburgh.
He is recently capped by Scotland and is regarded as a regular international
fly half of the future.
His signing has produced much comment on the Tykes message boards and he has
much to live up to.
‘The boy Gordon Ross is a top class No 10. He'll get the back line running a
treat.’
‘Spoke to someone who has played with and against Ross and Campbell today and
he thought both were very good signings. He was particularly complimentary about
Mr Ross and his boot’
‘Talking to regular Edinburgh watcher who said that Ross was a really good player
and much better than Hodge - could not understand why they let him go. Seems
a good player but again another one with the right attitude."
‘I reckon you'll find Ross a good investment, he's a real points machine’
‘Gordon is a quality player and is great addition to your squad in addition
to your squad and I concur with the comment above regarding the selection policy
for Edinburgh. A great bloke with the confidence and ability to control a game.
No co-incidence that before joining Edinburgh Heriot's won the premier division
two years on the trot with Goggs and Si Taylor in the team and in his four seasons
with Heriot's after leaving school he scored over 1000 points’
Ross has hinted that he hopes to nudge Braam van Straaten into the centres and
clearly one of the early talking points of the season will be who will secure
the fly half berth. It is a happy dilemma for the Tykes after finding the fly
half position a problem at times last year. Not only can we select from two
players of international class but they are both excellent kickers too.
