It has been brought to my attention that the previous article posted on Friday can be read as having a less than favourable slant on the coaches at the Tykes Academy. Please believe me this was not my intention.
We were absolutely dumbfounded and gratified that so many of the Tykes Academy coaches felt they were able to give up some of their time to spend trying to knock us Lardies into some kind of shape. The encouragement we received from all the coaches who helped us was fantastic, and we would never have been able to get close to achieving what we did on the day without their help. The use of the facilities at Kirkstall was an amazing experience for me and the rest of the participants, and we would like to place on record a huge thank-you to all who made this possible.
On day one of training, Jimmy Ponton made us promise not to embarrass him in the tournament. While I personally feel we lived up to the spirit of the tournament on the day, which after all was all about having a fun day in the sun, I certainly think Jimmy can be proud that the rag-bag of fat blokes he started with became close to a team by the end of a blisteringly hot Sunday.
Thankyou Jimmy, Chris, Roger and Dave. Feel free to be proud of us!
