After our rather timely departure from the cup competition we enter a busy month of league rugby this Sunday with the visit of Moseley to Headingley Carnegie stadium. The Midlanders will fancy their chances as we have not managed a win at home yet in the league....
Our boys have lost their last two games but we took heart from their performance at Ashton Gate two weeks ago. I also take heart from the stat that Moseley have not beaten us in the league since 1998. So, unless it is a thrilling draw, something has to give on Sunday. There is something of an injury crisis at HC at the moment and the club have signed a couple of backs to help ease that situation. I have gotten used to our struggles to put out a backline so any new faces are most welcome at this stage of the season.
The real concern is amongst the forwards where, I thought, we started the season with good competition for all eight places. The loan of a young lock from Bris shows how bad the situation has become. The upside of the crisis is that young players have been given a chance to shine. Two who have done just that are Jack Walker and Paul Hill. I hope that they both play against Moseley.
Moseley are just one place below us in the league having won just 3 games (like us) Their attack has scored just one point less than ours but defensively they have conceded 56 points more than us. I recall us putting sixty points on Mose in a recent league fixture. That will not be repeated on Sunday. If we can repeat our Ashton Gate form then a good win is on the cards. If not then expect a nervy affair with a small winning margin.
Anything less than a win will be disappointing. We have 4 league fixtures in February and need to develop a winning habit in order to salvage something from what could yet become an absolute disasterous season. Tommy might have to make a motivational speech of Shakespearian proportions to get his battered troops up for the contest on Sunday.
If he does they will win by 10 points.

Josh's inclusion makes 5 YC players in the squad as he joins Walker, Hill, Prell & Boyce... would have been 6 but Will Witty joined Falcons in the summer as he is studying at Newcastle Uni.
Just seen on Twitter that Lewis Boyce injured his knee at the England u20s camp last week and has had an operation already. Hopes to be fit for the u20 JWC in June.
