Improvement needed, otherwise an easy 4 points for Bedford.

I was pondering this morning as a pal in Bedford asked if I was going - I'm not, not taking more time off work for a Friday night match. Anyhow - we may win* folks, for the away match I missed we won and you can add in the Ulster B&I Cup!




*Don't hold your breath.

It is not just GM that needs to front up. It is the players also who are letting us, as supporters, themselves and the Club down. There is enough experience and capability for them to front up and put in a performance, not just at Bedford but the rest of the season!

I hope that the embarrassment, which was last Friday, is atoned this Friday. A narrow Leeds win!

I'm very disappointed with your lack of faith in the team. They've just been unlucky as the ref's are always anti us, there are loads of awesome players waiting to step out of the all conquering academy. Call yourselves true fans it's embarrassing....

Thanks Bobba, I hope you see it in the way it's meant. I have been slagged off for my view's so often and now people are starting to realise the problems.. On this occasion I don't like being right.

'Carnegie must look after the ball better, and not concede the silly penalties which are stopping us taking a stranglehold on the game. If we can do that, then maybe we can sneak a narrow win, but the hosts will see the match as very winnable, and I guess whichever way it goes, there will be no more than one score between the sides'

We can't do the basics, and it is hard to see where the next win is coming from. The injured players are key to Yorkshire getting back on the front foot, but I guess the team spirit at the minute is pretty low. It was dire listening tonight as we made mistake after mistake.

We've been through it all together.

The first half hour or so was way better than last week. The tempo of the game was much higher and Carnegie could have had three or four tries by half time.
They were regularly getting into really dangerous positions and tries, whilst possibly not looking inevitable certainly looked more than likely. However I lost count of how many times a promising phase was ruined because the ball was spilled in contact, that now seems to be a recurring theme and on numerous occasions we gave away penalties whilst attacking in their 25. When Smith was carded we were about 5 yards from their line!
Bedford weren't really in it until about 10 minutes into the second half. Their defence was commendable in the first half and all their possession came from Carnegie errors.
Better, but still loads to work on, the main problems being caused at the contact area. Scrums and lineouts weren't brilliant either.

Crap drive back by the way, visibility down to about 20 yards in places.

About right Griz66, I thought we were in for a right battering in the 1st quarter, the game should've been over.
I was very impressed with your 8 & 6 really good players.

Our execution killed us, we got into good positions several times but mistakes and the wrong decisions led to us running into traffic or just coughing the ball up.

My biggest frustration is that we lack the ability to change our game plan when it doesn't work. You can also see the run of defeats is taking its toll, whereas last year in attack players were on their toes and nimble this year it is more leaden. An element of this could have been due to the deluge earlier in the day but still Bedford were hitting the line at pace and crossing it, we were taking it stationary and hoping some magic would get us through.

It is difficult to draw many positives from the game but it seems like the dressing room is tight and the players did come over to the travelling support post match.

I fear that the situation is not going to get much better. Lets forget the top four position, on this years performance we will be lucky to stay out of the bottom four.
Clubs who perhaps feared playing us will see we are there for the taking.
I agree with others that loss of players to other clubs and so called loans out and in this year have not helped. Dont allways blame the coaches for this I believe these came from Chris Gibson as a cost saving procedure.
We have to accept that we are a mid table club without the resourses to go further. We are lacking the support from fans, have less posters on here than ever before, its the same old faces,and we have a weaker team.

England dominated possession and territory in the first half but continually spilled the ball and gifted the Springboks a 13-6 halftime lead when Jan Serfontein intercepted a Danny Care pass for a 60-metre score and Pat Lambie collected two penalties.

England must be copying off us.......

Moseley's win at Donny today has put them within 1 point of us in the table. One win for them and the Pirates could take them above us, leaving only Plymouth below us. That makes next Friday's result very important, lose that one and we are in deep trouble.
Gary Mercer thinks we are a top four side, at the moment we are from it!

He has a choice doesn't he and it depends on what sort of game he wants to play. Although they lost, Carnegie probably got in to more threatening positions in that first 50 minutes than all the other league games this season put together, so I am a little buoyed by the performance. There must have been half a dozen butchered chances in that first half.

Ball retention, or rather lack thereof killed us.

Does he stick with Matt Dudman at 9 who offers more in attack or Chris Pilgrim who is perhaps more solid. So, pace in attack or solid in defence?

We could do with some choice at 10, if only for resilience.

I have in the past been accused of being overly optimistic.

Can either Carnegie or England please start winning? Just saw the England wendyball team play well to win 3 - 1 and, if this continues, I might be tempted back to the round ball game.

Almo, it's not just about winning though is it? The performance is well below what we expect. It could be our expectations are too high after last season, but I can just about put up with defeat, if the team are playing well. Sadly, consistently, they are not.

I used to hate cycling in the cold, in winter, but somehow it now doesn't seem so bad.

Just building up courage to face next Friday and the "must win" match ( you know how I like a cliché).

the point to all of this is most people on here have been watching for many years, the team has had ONE good season in about ten years now. I don't count seasons with almost premiership teams winning 130-? It's not cheep watching sport and the least we expect is the team to grow a pair and man up. All the talk about challenging for the top of the league, creating a center of excellence rolled out by Yorkshire Carnegie watching a group of privileged players who can't hold a ball, catch, or at times run is not worth paying for. Then when they don't even acknowledge the few fans that are left it's very off side.I'm not sure if YC realise the problems they are building up for themselves next year IF they manage to stay out of a relegation fight this year. I know as I type many will be saying it's too early to consider relegation but is it? Who s going to get the team to winning ways and against which team? I aren't confident we can win any match, and I aren't bothered about traipsing to headingley to stand in the cold watching@#$%&and I have a season ticket. So who will turn up from Hull after the awesome performances on the road? The best thing about the on the road games is the majority of fans that watch in Leeds wont go so may still come to Leeds. At this point in time I'd have one game in Leeds and all the others as far away as possible that way you might get one good attendance this year...

Well Silenttyke, I'm still here. I don't post as much because I don't watch Leeds, or whatever they want to call themselves, all that much. Strangely, the two games I have seen were against the other Yorkshire teams and who beat us fair and square. No point in me posting lots as I no longer watch week in week out. I leave it to others to pass comment on players, performance, coaches, management... If I have an opinion on the current situation on the above topics, it is simple. The results speak for themselves.

In the meantime, I will continue to travel around Yorkshire, visiting proper Yorkshire Clubs and enjoying proper Yorkshire hospitality. Yesterday it was Skipton, who in a hard game, in not very good conditions, beat Wensleydale 15-0.My match report is simple. I enjoyed it, something I have not had the pleasure of at Headingley for a while!

Just a comment regarding our dwindling support.

I have noticed, when watching my Son train and also warm up before matches, that quite a few of the lads wear Leeds kit. However, it's always (and I do mean without exception) the Leeds Carnegie blue and yellow Premiership kit. No green kit and certainly none of this seasons kit. So they either lost interest or stopped buying merchandise when we parted company with the top flight.

My Son's team train on a Friday evening 6.30 till 8 ruling out any possibility of attending a game under the Friday night lights (my preferred ko time).

They play their matches on a Sunday morning usually coming away from the club around 1 - 1.30 making it virtually impossible to get to HC for 2.30 unless we're playing in or around Leeds on a weekend when Yorkshire are at home.

It's therefore very difficult to re-kindle that interest even if they wanted to. We want to go to games but have only managed one this season (away at Notts when a Junior game was unexpectedly cancelled).

I wont mention this again as I know I've droned on about it a few times this season and it's getting boring but, the phrase biting the hand that feeds does spring immediately to mind.

I travelled to Bedford Friday night and don't really know what to make of it. First half saw some good patches of play but lacked the cutting edge of last year. Second half a lot of good field position was lost because of poor contact skills and some poor decision making. General observation is that we kick away possession much more than we did last season and that we lack pace at 10 and 12. However, on another day we could have easily won the game as Bedford were only slightly better on the night. All rather puzzling.

What options do we have at fly half? I'm struggling to work out if we do.

Have faith you Headingly, Leeds Tykes, Leeds Carnegie, Yorkshire Carnegie fans. I speak as a long term Bedford supporter and one who has ridden the roller-coaster of success, failure and everything in-between. You have had good times in recent years and are now in a rebuilding phase. The Championship improves year on year and clubs in the rebuilding phase find it more difficult to compete - just look at Cornish Pirates, Nottingham and Bedford to name but three. A couple of wins and you will be back in the mid-table scrap. Be happy, don't worry (apologies to Bob Marley). Most important for me is that you get yourselves a sensible name, i.e. Leeds RUFC!

Carnegie should have been out of sight by half time.

If our handling and execution was better we could have crossed for a couple of tries, last year we would have. Confidence it key and sadly losing, like winning, is a habit.

Bedford were more tenacious and persistent and made the most of their opportunities and hit the line at pace which was different to us.

Sadly too many mistakes hurt us but the pressure to win to stem a losing streak probably outweighs the pressure to continue a winning streak.

I was looking at the video of our game and there were many shots which brought in the crowd. I just thought how nice, I know its a smallish ground, to see fans all round the ground.
At YC because of the support and the size of the ground it really looks empty and uninspiring
