Week 10. Preview and results.

The last weekend of league games before a return to Cup fixtures sees an intriguing set of fixtures, with five of the six set to be hard fought, and close, encounters.
As last week, the action gets underway this evening at Brickfields, where Plymouth will hope to put last weeks disappointing home result behind them when they take on play off hopefuls Rotherham. The Titans were heavily penalised last week but held on for a narrow victory, but tonight they may not be so lucky, and if the penalty count goes against them again, they could be making a long journey home on the back of a defeat.
Three grounds see action tomorrow. The bottom two sides come face to face at St. Peters, and it is hard to visualise anything other than a convincing home win as Jersey play host to Ealing. Back on the mainland, and a rejuvenated Bedford become the latest club to attempt to put an end to the unbeaten record of London Welsh. Goldington Road is never an easy ground to win at, and buoyed by last week’s win at Plymouth, the Blues will be fired up for this one. A tight game to call, but the experience of the Exiles may just see them through. Finally tomorrow, Moseley, who have only suffered one reverse, and that to the league leaders, in the last 4 games, travel to Richmond, hoping to put a dent into the London Scottish surge up the table. While a home win seems most likely, I have a sneaking feeling Moseley may spring the shock result of the weekend.
Two more difficult games to predict finish of the weekend on Sunday. Nottingham, who have been the surprise package so far in that they have struggled near the bottom of the league have the Pirates as visitors to Meadow Lane. Pirates, of course, beat Bristol last week, but they are inconsistent, and a home win is on the cards for me.
Finally the game affecting our own team. It’s ten years since Leeds last won at Bristol, and they have not always covered themselves in glory in front of the television cameras. A difficult game to predict. While Leeds have only made one injury enforced change to their 22, their hosts have made 12 changes following last week’s defeat in Cornwall. Even allowing for the size of the squad, this seems a huge number of alterations, and it may take time for them to settle down.
Last week, Leeds' replacements played a big part when they came onto the field, and I think Smith and Chris Walker can feel unlucky not to start this time around. I am pleased to see Phil Nilsen starting, his throwing to the line could be crucial on Sunday afternoon.
My heart says Leeds to win, but my head can’t decide. Either way, I doubt there will be much between the two sides. I’ll have to toss a coin to predict this one, oh!, it’s come down for Leeds.
So it’s Plymouth, Jersey, London Welsh, Moseley, Nottingham and Leeds to have a successful weekend. Enjoy your rugby this weekend.
