……… that’s my home, well according to Paul Young it is anyway. Whilst this may be true for eighties soul singers it is not necessarily true for modern day Rugby Union teams as demonstrated by Leeds Carnegie who have been finding out the hard way that the reality is somewhat less comfortable.
Having won our first away away game at London Scottish on Sunday our attention now turns towards winning our first away home game against Moseley, this weeks’ hat stand coming courtesy of Wharfedale RUFC.
Moseley come into the game on the back of some mixed recent results. Unlike Leeds they looked to use the B&I cup to build a winning mentality which they could then carry forward into the league campaign. Having achieved the first part of the plan recording wins against Llanelli and Scottish in the cup they failed to implement phase 2 suffering a 21-13 reverse at Doncaster on their return to league action. They took this on the chin though and bounced back last weekend gaining a creditable 9-9 draw against the Pirates, Moseley hitting back from 0-9 down with 59 minutes gone.
So, what can we expect from our visit to Threshfield apart from a warm welcome, stunning scenery and lots of black sheep (whether you interpret that as the alcoholic variety from Masham or the four legged, woolly variety in the surrounding countryside is purely down to personal preference, both apply and the Welsh blokes at work inform me that you can have an equally good time with either!).
After the positive result in London I would not expect too much tinkering this week. There is a decision to be made between Curtis Wilson and Oli Goss on the wing but apart from that I think that any other changes that are made will probably come in the back row where we have particular strength in depth. Having said that, if I were a betting man I would put money on Rob Baldwin keeping the No. 8 shirt at the club which this time 2 months ago he was running out for as captain. His try scoring contribution last week will have helped but more than that, Rob has impressed me each time I’ve seen him play. In my opinion he was one of only 3 Leeds players to come away from that dismal night at Kingston Park with any credit and he is playing like a man eager to make the most of his chance in the professional game, long may it continue.
Of course, just because I don’t expect changes to be made doesn’t mean that it won’t happen. Personally, I have given up trying to second guess Diccon’s team selections and tactics as I have come to the conclusion that he is either a tactical grand master whose genius is so profound that it is beyond my comprehension or an amateur thrashing around in the dark. I sincerely hope it proves to be the former but, unfortunately, strongly suspect the latter.
If there is such a thing as a home from home then Wharfedale should be it as, in addition to RB many other members of our young side will have played there during their development years. Whatever the location and without meaning any disrespect to our opponents, we really should be looking to take 4 points at the very least from this game. I hope for a good performance, improvement on the disciplinary front, less unforced errors and evidence of us performing as a cohesive, well coached unit.
If all of that isn’t too much to ask, and notwithstanding the DE factor, then I confidently predict another bonus point win, an enjoyable occasion and also a massive 80 mins from Mr Baldwin.

Looking at the other fixtures though, I reckon this is a great opportunity to consolidate our top 4 position.
Notts are at Falcons and Roth go down to Cornwall which is never easy. Bedford also face a tricky trip to Donny who will be desperate to put some points on the board now Jersey have started winning.
As for the five points, we've made the mistake of underestimating Moseley before, to our cost.
Also to bear in mind is that the likes of Wharfedale's ground is much more in keeping with the facilities at Moseley than it is with those at Leeds.

I have been to Wharfedale twice and Moseley once and think your comments are unfair to Wharfedale - they have better facilities.
