Well I never knew that Twitter could be so nerve-racking! Following our away game at Falcons via Neil Leigh’s tweets hasn’t exactly been a relaxing Sunday afternoon......

But we’ve just secured our second away win in a row, in spite of what seems, in Mr Leigh’s unbiased opinion, to have been shambolic officiating. That puts us a respectable sixth in the Table with nine rounds of the AP now concluded.

And if the Table never lies, maybe it lets us measure our performances so far more realistically. Bath, winners at the AJB in round one, are competing seriously so that looks a logical result. The round two loss from a winning position away at Gloucester, who are currently eighth, still looks like one that got away. Welsh at home really has to be five points, and Saracens away ought to be none. The home win against Wasps was delivered as you’d hope if we are to achieve our aspirations and the round six visit to Saints was never going to be productive. The home win against Irish would have been expected while the away win at Quins might have been expected given their form, although that must be a disappointment to their fans. That brings us to this afternoon’s hard-fought win at Fortress Kingston Park which, in my view, fully makes up for the slip at Kingsholm ten weeks ago.

So I think there’s a bit of swings and roundabouts in the season so far. We’re certainly competing well for a top half place and, while I don’t think we have the firepower to bother the top three or four seriously, we do seem good enough to beat anyone if they don’t take us seriously or they have an off day. That’ll do me. Bring on Exeter in three weeks’ time- they’ll be a good test.
