Castres is on the best weekend, bit of autumn warmth rather than ice and snow we've seen in the past and Toulouse are home on the Friday night to boot too. Want to see three games then hop on the train down to Toulon for Sundays game.
We have just come back from the Toulouse area and a return HC trip was eagerly awaited, but only if in October. Brill that it is the first weekend of the HC and as Chris says will allow some warmth and all the rest. The Toulouse game sounds interesting, Chris. Thanks for that.
Leinster traditionally have the December HC tie at the Aviva stadium so that should be a good trip. Personal circumstances give me the opportunity to do all the away fixtures this season which I haven't done since 2002. Can't wait for it all to get going now!!
serious
Hoping that, as the Castres game is confirmed for a Saturday afternoon, I can make it over. Looking at the possibility of Eurostar and the sleeper train to Toulouse over Friday night, then back on the Sunday.
Smurf, look at the TGV 1st Class, nice big comfy seats, easy to sleep in. I know I say this every year but here we go again, when booking rail tickets look at the 1st Class prices too (except for Eurostar) as sometimes they can be cheaper than standard. And on't buy a return ticket from the Uk to your destination and back, book each journey separately.
Ospreys on a Sunday lunchtime is a shame.. Love the atmosphere when we play the welsh teams and the pre match get together... Oh we'll, breakfast and Guinness again..
At the moment there's a direct train from Toulouse at 1:45 gets into Castre at 13:00, plenty of time to stop for a beer and amble to the ground. Direct returns at 19:57 and 20:40. If I remember correctly the next timetable change in France is later in October but don't quote me on that.
Looks like my Stag do will be the Castres away trip. Question - stay in Toulouse or Castres? I like Toulouse a lot, but haven;t been to Castres before.....
Be aware that it looks like replacement buses might be operating on the Toulouse/Castres route in October - we were going to get the train (flying into Toulouse), however hiring a car is probably now our preferred option.
Just a thought. The Saints official trips stay in Toulouse and then run coaches to the ground then back to Toulouse. Surely a bloke with Chris Wearmouth's talents could organize 2/3 extra coaches for fans travelling by themselves. Registration by a certain date, non-refundable deposit, central pick-up/drop-off point etc. Going by the bus replacements that Rob mentions I think this would be better option all round.
Tracy O We're flying into Carcassonne and hiring a car.
Ahhhh Carcassonne I remember having a very drunken French pronunciation lesson in a kebab shop there, having watched THAT home match v's Munster in a market square bar after Mrs SaintsDuncan booked a holiday at the wrong time.
Needless to say all through the game I kept pointing out the two empty seats...
