News: The Day We Have Been Waiting For

Over the past few weeks the natives of COYSDC have become more than a little restless. Lots of re-signings announced - the England team, the Winger who got away. But no news of, perhaps, the best line-out stealer in the country and a stalwart of the Saints' second row. Fingernails were bitten to the quick, cats crept nervously around the room, avoiding feet carefully. Pace, COYS dwellers - here is what you have been waiting for!
Another Day, another contract at the Jimmies!
Rumours that Christian Day was coming to Northampton started way before the end of the 2007 season. A boy from Blackpool where he attended the Arnold School and played his early rugby for Fylde, Christian had been at Sale Sharks since he became a professional rugby player. He had done his apprenticeship at the club and represented England at age-group rugby.
After three solid seasons in the Sale first team, opportunities were suddenly limited. However, the rumour had to be put on hold while he went to Paris. Stade Francais required another lock forward and Christian was the man who fitted that particular bill.
On his return to England, the rumours turned out to be true and he found his new home from home with the Saints. There were lots of familiar faces around with five recent Sale players in the squad and, of course, the master torturer himself, Nick Johnston.He has never been anywhere with quite Northampton’s preoccupation with rugby. It is amazing.
In the three-and-a-half years since then Day has earned himself winners medals in both the 
European Challenge Cup and LV= Cup and played in the 2011 Heineken Cup final. On match days, Christian is our line-out captain. He makes the calls and everybody else makes them happen. Calls vary depending on whereabouts on the pitch the line-out is being taken.
Christian says that staying in Northampton was a straightforward choice to make.
“It was a fairly easy decision to make,” he said. “The Saints are one of the top clubs in the country and my family are pretty settled here, so ultimately it was pretty easy to make the choice to stay in the area."
“The last four years have gone very quickly and over that time we have developed as a squad and have a good core of players which has grown in number. The Northampton fans have been treated to some good performances and now we’re in a position where we should be competing for the top honours."
“The support we get from the fans is massive. Every player wants to be supported and feel like they’re part of something when they turn up on a Saturday. A club like Northampton is good to play for; the whole town’s behind us and I’m looking forward to being part of a squad that can hopefully deliver silverware in the future.”
Director of rugby Jim Mallinder says that it is important for the Saints to be retaining the services of players like Day.
“Christian has been with us for a number of years and knows what makes the club and the team tick,” he said. “He is a quality player in both the setpiece and in the loose and has contributed a lot to our development over the past four seasons. He is still in his twenties and has plenty of good years in front of him, and we are delighted that he has chosen to spend them at Franklin’s Gardens.”
In concusion some facts
Daysy never has Marmite.
His favourite biscuit is, “Them all!” There is not much room for them in his diet. Big Brother is watching, otherwise he would have more than his modest allowance of Chocolate Hob-Nobs.

So far he has played 75 times in the black, green and gold and his form during his time in Northampton earned Day a call-up to the 2011 England Saxons Six Nations squad.

If he hadn't have been injured for the best part of the season, I would have hoped that Mr Lancaster would have given the big man a chance.

i think his injury and the decision about his contract have taken a bit out of him and the team this year , and i predict that with healthy size 14s and a clear mind he will be helping nobby's brainstrust sort out the restarts and breakdowns , and really squeezing opposing lineouts.
it's laughable that neophytes like attwood , one trick ponies like botha and lightweights like parling should be placed above daisy ;there's still time for him, and if they still refuse to watch him, he's perfectly capable of making them.
he's already starting to rumble after his layoff and he needs to press on now. only the scrummage has operated at full throttle this year ; we need the lineout really squeezing once more to throttle teams and we need the restarts to prevent them striking back.
apart from how important he is to our success, i really do enjoy watching daisy play.often you can predict when he's going to crack the opposing lineout , you get a sequence when he's obviously getting closer and closer to his first steal and the oppo are getting stressy , then he's in there and strangles one - love it.
and watching him lead his pod round the corner of the ruck in his scrum cap is like watching lombardi's left tackle and guard lead out the packers running backs on a sweep . it gives the pleasure of watching something done well.
really good news.
