England Under 20 have named their squad to travel to New Zealand for the 2014 IRB Junior World Championship, held in Auckland. Coaches Nick Walshe and Ian Peel will be hoping to..

England kick off their campaign on June 2against Italy at the ECOLight Stadium in Pukekohe before facing Australia on June 6 at the QBE Stadium, Auckland, before taking on Argentina on June 10, again at the QBE Stadium.

Head Coach Walshe said: “We’re pleased with the balance and experience in this squad, and we are confident that they will perform well in each of our five matches.

“While England U20 are the holders of the trophy, this group hasn’t won anything – we enjoyed a successful Six Nations, and while it was disappointing not to win it, as a group we came on hugely. The key is to keep building on that momentum.”

Forwards Coach Peel said: “Our focus is on that first game against Italy. We have a warm up match and a camp in Newcastle prior to flying out, but the plan is to build towards that opening match. The games come thick and fast in this tournament, we’ve got a very tough group but we’re excited by that challenge.”

Captain Callum Braley added: “It’s massively exciting to be heading down to New Zealand to defend our title. Rugby is obviously huge over there and there will be some pressure on us, but we will use that as a positive and look to perform as best we can.”

Wasn't Henry Taylor with us a while back, anybody know why/when he was released? Looks like he is joining up with Sarries now [www.saracens.com]

He spent a full year in the academy, and was presumably released because he was one of three scrum halves in the academy. That said, I thought he looked a better player than Jordan Burns (a converted winger), but Burns's ridiculous pace probably meant releasing Taylor was a risk worth taking. I wouldn't be surprised if Taylor became a perfectly good premiership player with Sarries.

Thanks QP, good to know I wasn't going mad and it was the same player I remembered from the A league. Little surprised we released him as he looked like he has the skill set to make it, hope it works out for him at Sarries.

Kyle Sinckler wasn't in last year's squad, and I'm not sure if Ford played in all the tournaments for which he could qualify age-wise. Perhaps there's some directive for the 'extra special' youngsters where the powers-that-be think their development would be enhanced by missing out for whatever reason.
