Seb Stegmann joins London Welsh

Harlequins announced today (25th February) that Seb Stegmann will be released early from his contract so that he can join London Welsh with immediate effect.
The 23-year-old winger had already signed a two year contract with London Welsh which was due to come into effect at the start of next season, however, having been approached by Lyn Jones, the club’s Director of Rugby, requesting his early release, Harlequins felt it was in the best interests of the player's ongoing development that he got regular game time.
Hounslow born Stegmann is a graduate of the Harlequins Academy. He has represented England at Under 16, 18 and 20 levels and has made 35 senior appearances for Harlequins and scored 11 tries.
Commenting on Stegmann’s release, Harlequins Director of Rugby Conor O’Shea said, “Given that Seb had already signed a two year deal with London Welsh for next season, once Lyn Jones approached us looking for his early release, we felt it was in the player's best interests to allow him to do so. The selfish and easy thing for us to do would be to keep Seb and I know how much he was looking forward to contributing to both the LV= Cup play-offs and our run in for the remainder of the season. However, with competition for places among our back three as keen as it is, we are comfortable we have made the right decision for club and player.
“Seb has shown great fight and application to come back from two years of injury problems and has contributed massively to us over these past two seasons,” O’Shea continued, “I know he will be missed and everyone at the club wishes him well. Seb is one of the young players that have grown up through our academy process and we will say our formal goodbyes to him as a club at the end of the season. The more he plays the better he will be and we all wish him well in this new phase of his career"

So our typical back three will be Two out of Ugo, Tom, and Sam, and Mike or Ross starting at FB. On the bench you can have Ollie who can fill in as a winger/full-back, and if needs be, we know Mike can play on the wing too.
London Welsh have signed exciting former England U20 wing Seb Stegmann from Harlequins.
Stegmann, 23, joins the Exiles immediately and has agreed a deal that will keep him at London Welsh until 2015.
He came through the Academy at Harlequins and made his first-team debut against Newcastle Falcons in September 2007 in the Premiership.
Stegmann scored three tries in eight appearances during the club’s Aviva Premiership winning campaign of 2011/12, and went onto make 35 appearances for Harlequins in total, scoring 11 tries.
He represented England at U16, U18 and U20 levels, and won a Grand Slam with England U20s in 2008, scoring three tries. The same year he featured for England at the U20s IRB Junior World Championships in Wales.
London Welsh head coach Lyn Jones said: “Seb is a good recruit for us; he’ll add a lot of strength to our squad. I’m really looking forward to working with him.
“He is another successful product of the Harlequins Academy. He’s had a very promising career up till now and will benefit from playing more games.”

Esher Coach Ollie Smith believes Charlie is well on his way to becoming one of the most exciting talents in world rugby.
Not so sure about that, but he is certainly playing well.

Conor is already on record as saying he wants to keep the LV team pretty much as it was during the group stage, so I think you're probably close with your line-up. I could see Tom or Ugo on the bench if we need some extra "oumph" to close out the game...

I remember his injury. Mike Brown (I think) gave him a proper hospital pass.
My memory is different. I think he just ran into the defensive line and did something to his knee during the initial hit, rather than it being a hospital pass. It was clear before he touched the ground that he'd done something to it.

I thought Charlie Walker was a centre?
There was a nice peice in the Rugby Paper on Sunday. Ollie Smith saying that Walker had struggled a little this season so Smith asked Quins if he could take Walker over to Esher to get some game time. Really raving about him, said he should be in the macthday 23 next season. He has been playing fullback, Smith thinks it is his best position and has told Quins that.
They say a change is as good as a rest so hopefully in time Seb will prove to be a big asset for London Welsh and keep them in the premiership for many years to come.
